However, you shouldn't monitor a child's heart rate unless they have some sort of health problem (or you they are obese and you are trying to get them to lose weight efficiently, that would be a health problem though). There is no need to.
The recommendations change all time but any amount of exercise is good for them so don't worry about it.
Aim for about an hour a day. It's not so much endurance or making children take part in scheduled exercise sessions, but make sure they are active and do stuff that gets their heart rate up, ie running about, playing football or basketball etc.
Quite simple really.

I would venture to guess like all of the others have said, a half hour of constant running, walking, swimming may be ok. Heart rate again can go a little higher than adults. However,
like all of the rest of the people say, learning and utilizing athletic motions and behaviors are probably better at sustaining childrens interests for longer periods of time. For example teaching them how to swim the four strokes in swimming plus limited endurance is very sustaining. Lending personal enthusiasm and adventure and fun also leads to increased interest. Just going out and running or bicycling unless their goal is to say ride, walk or run to a park can be well uninteresting. They are also more immediately gratified. They use to make us run a mile for time in junior high. I had the fastest speed for that distance in our school.. I did not really practice running though. Swimming may be more enguaging for kids because they can learn more than bicycling or running. As a kid we used to bike and walk or run for long distance at times to go to a store or another school to play baseball or softball. Anyways, with any further questions ask a doctor-your personal physician or a sports medicine doctor. Some good personal trainers can tell you. Look up childrens fitness.

Kids, by nature, are active 'sports person'. The exertion of carrying their heavy school bags is the 1st example. At school they engage in lot of physical stuff like running aroung, frolicking on the playground, doing little stunts etc.
When a kid is active enough, why the need of an endurance exercise. In my opinion, a kid gets the required amount of exercise, if left to their own elements.
To determine your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220. This number represents how many times your heart should beat per minute at its maximum rate. Multiply that number by 0.6 and 0.85 to determine the range of heart rate to strive for. Sustain this heart rate for from 30 to 45 minutes at least 3 times a week to begin to burn fat.

The best thing that we have been doing for my daughter is Gymnastics. She is in competitive gymnastics and is there for four hours a day 4 days a week. Now that is maybe a little extreme but again she is in team. The one thing I see is that we do not live in the same world we grew up in. When I was a kid we stayed out 'till after dark playing kickball and kick the can flash light tag. Riding our bikes all over the place. I will not let my daughter do these things sadly. Yes she gets to ride her bike and play with friends, but it is all closely monitored. I mean maybe it was out there when we were kids but because of the internet I know I have a sex offender less than 3 miles from me. That's just the reported ones. The other problem is a lot of schools have taken PE out of their curriculum. They have to cut budgets some how and PE is the easiest one to get rid of. As far as what a suitable heart rate is? Who cares. Enough of the Wendy's McD's, fruits and good food is what matters. Do basic calestetics in the house. Push-ups, jumping jacks, running in place. If they are young enough, have them do crunches while suspending their body over the arm of the couch.

Childhood Obesity, also defined as hyper-plastic obesity, it is the stage where fat cells are being produce. It is easier to be obese after teen age, Since Fat cell just grow in size during this stage of life.
Exercise, however, only reduce fat cell size. Eating more but with less calories would be a solution.
You can't lose weight on eating less, our body has a defence system to counter the weight loss which also gives the ability to fast, Metabolism rate decreases as we eat less food.
The good thing with exercise is muscles get enhanced. The more muscles the more calories burner. Flexibility, on childhood stage children are very flexible. Ask a guide of stunts etc. A man must be flexible on all body parts, but don't exercise too much, an hour a day could be enough maybe two hours. Since it could trigger growth gap.
Professionals say that we must exercise as a family so that children wouldn't think they are alone. (could be a cause for stress, another factor of getting fat). However for more information research the keyword Obesity. I don't want to be stressed. I need to sleep.

Most elementary teachers recommend half-an hour to an hour each day for during the school days. Many of them recommend jump roping for at least 45 minutes, because jump roping is good for their hearts. However, children who only do at least 30 min. of fitness at school, should do the other 30 min. at home or where ever, because the teachers know that children do not have that much strength as big kids do. It doesn't matter what the kids do in school such as running, basketball, playing on the playground or hula-hooping, as they just be active and do at least an hour a day of fitness.

I'm a hurdler and during my training sessions, not everyone endurance was at the same level. In gaining endurance one must first discover what is their level of tolerance before engaging into ANY physical activity. So for kids, that would be determined by the amount of tolerance you can ENDURE hence you can further build upon it! A simple way of doing this is by monitoring the time it takes before you start hyperventilating. If it takes 15min then you know your endurance level is only 15min. If you keep doing this regularly, you eventually increase your tolerance thus increasing your endurance.

I'm not sure about the best heart rate for kids, it depends on age, weight, that sort of thing so it differs from person to person. but I don't think kids can get too much aerobic excercise. Kids are meant to be constantly running around outside, kids these days don't do it enough!

some of this exercises regimes for the little ones is ridiculous . give them half an hour of good old , gym routines a day and throw away the x-box, and no drive through... young ones today are LAZY! I see the differences with the way my kids are (35-33) and my grandsons are (16 -5) and there is a bigger difference when I was younger and them ,,,, parents need to quit being lazy too ,,, enjoy their kids , take walks with them , push them on the swings , play hide and go seek .That's not only called bonding , it's also called exercise !
