Try anything by Matthew Reilly. Another good writer is James Rollins or Jack DuBrul. Paul Christopher has a great heroine in his series.
I enjoy books like Dan Brown's along the lines of decoding clues. Loved the movie National Treasure.
Try books by Raymond Khoury he writes books like this along with the writers already mentioned. I like to try to figure out where the authors' got their information.
One of the better books I ever read is a futuristic book along these lines written by Stel Pavlou calle Decipher, if you can find it you would probably enjoy it. Have fun, happy reading!

My Name is Red
by Orhan Pamuk, a very famous Turkish author. Check it out.
A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov
A tightly knitted collection of short stories revolving around a single character, Pechorin. The short stories comprising this work are intricately connected, and the reader moves from a superficial glimpse of the character's actions to an understanding of his philosophy and of the secret springs of his seemingly mysterious behavior. The innovative structure of the novel is very modern

Harlen Coben is a great author. Storylines not like Angels & Demons or The Davinci Code, but really good, suspenseful reads.
Water the Elephants, by someone with the last name Gruen I think, is a good book.

The Hagakure ....
Example..."there is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking."
Its the among the very best of books.

which dan brown book, he has written several.
read others of his. you could also read Steve Berry. he has written books in the same sort of genre, but are more believable in the sense that he is telling a story and is based incorporating some history, rather than trying to brainwash us into believing that his fiction is fact.

I like Tournament Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky. Of course, you'd have to enjoy poker and be an advanced player to understand the book.
