College is based on facts and books, so why not buy the books and teach yourself? I met a few ppl with no degree who make more money than others. Some even with no diploma or GED...so whats the deal? I'm going to college now, but seems I may be wasting my money.

OK, everyone seems to be saying college is good. I can understand why, but for those who make money w/ no college degree and even no diploma/ged, there are a few who make 50-60 grand/year w/o any of these...My point is that college isn't important to SOME companies, but MOST companies do want it. Correct?

FINISH COLLEGE !!!!!!!!!!!! Take it from someone who was in the same place you were and decided to leave my junior year. . . . I have been passed up and looked over just because I don't have a degree! ! ! Unfortunately things like this aren't based on intelligence but on what you have accomplished! ! ! I agree It's just a piece of paper, but damn I wish I had one!

College is also about growing as a person. You will have many experiences in college that you won't get anywhere else.

Put yourself in the position of hiring someone. Two great candidates, one has a degree and one doesn't. Guess who gets hired? A degree definitely looks better on your resume, but depending on what career field you plan to go into, it might not make a difference as far as getting you more pay. Some advanced positions, do however, require a degree, whether or not it's pertinent to the career.

Yes, college make a big difference. Sure there are examples of people who have been wildly successful with no education, but they are the exception not the norm.

If you want to be looked at as a professional, you need a college degree. Without that on your resume, you will not get through the door with most companies.

School can be frustrating some times, but stick it out. It will be worth it in the end.

It's all about options. Yeah, you might get a $30/hr job now without a college degree. Will you likely rise above this? probably not. Will you be able to enter professions like medicine, law, or upper levels of business? no. The thing is you have to remember that GENERALLY, people without degrees earn less in the long run. Are there exceptions? of course, but they're just that, exceptions.

College education teaches you certain discipline in life. When you are attending college, you are required to follow certain times, rules, regulations regarding attendance, behaviour, attire, assignments etc etc. This (discipline) helps you in your later on in your social, work and personal life. This is the reason college education is necessary.
Regarding your observation that some people are making more money even though they do not have college degree - Money is only one aspect of total life - what about other aspects? How do these people behave socially? What kind of work habits they have? There are always exceptions to the rule. But the fact remains that majority of successful people have undergone college education.
Rest assured - You are not wasting your money, you are investing your money and time.

To some employers "that piece of paper" means a lot, to some - not so much. Some employers demand it. My brother had such an experience. Had his mind and heart set on working at a particular place, was skilled in his work, but they demanded a Bachelor's degree. He worked very hard to earn the degree, and eventually got the job.

With that said, not everyone has to go to college to earn a good living. We desperately need skilled and licensed electricians, plumbers, washer and dryer repairmen, roofers, etc. Ask some homeowners how long they have to wait for a good repairman. Someone said to me that "no one who does good work has to advertise or is wanting for work." Believe me, that is true.

Of course not.
You need to think of the fact that people will hire you if u have qualifications. It looks better on the CV.
The qualifications you get from college prove thtat you will be able to work.
And lol how do i know all this? Do i even know? Im gonna shut up. Im only in Year 10.
Anyway thegrades u get from college could be used as a back up plan in case you fail to be employed or make your own business. COLLEGE IS GOOD.

Your question is a good one and the answer depends on what you're planning on doing with your life ... do you want to get a job? ... then college is a good thing ... do you have an entrepreneurial spirit? ... then college is just a maybe ... college in no way guarantees success in whatever you choose to do ... the success you will acheive is entirely up to what you are willing to do.

There's a saying that I've heard and find it to be true quite often ... "A" students will always work for "C" students, because those who know how always work for those who know why.

I wish you all the success in life that you're willing to work for

yea you could do that , and you could be doing it wrong, its a guidance thing, and going colleges looks better on your job resume, unless that is you want to put that you taught your self and got a degree. and its all about luck, you may not go to college and make a lot more than someone who did, or vise versa
