This has probably been asked before but when taking a shower our mixer shower runs hot and then cold continuously. Why is this & can it be fixed DIY style or would we have to call a plumber? Also when running the hot tap it can take a good couple of minutes before it starts getting hot, so are these problems all related?

Just incase you need to know we have a combination boiler! Thanks ;)

This happens even when no one else is in, and no other appliances (dishwasher etc) or taps are running!!

Maybe someone else is using hot water in the kitchen or another bathroom at the same time.
So it gets drawn that side. This happens with us.
cannot think of anything else.

Your water pressure is set to low. Mine is set at 38 pounds at the bladder tank or 65 pounds at the outlet for the house. Yours can't keep up. if you have a pump look at the inside of the switch cover, there are instructions on how to adjust your pressure, it's simple, you'll need a screwdriver. Set it at least at 55 pounds.
