English colonists came for a variety of reasons: wanting economic improvement, flee religious persecution, sent as a jail sentence (Georgia began as a debtor's colony, as Australia did)

slave importation started by a small portion of the population, in a time when both the buyers and those who captured and sold them in Africa (their very own or rival tribes) had very little value on human life, and chose to continue persecution they fled/fought.

Puritans believed in a Christianity that was very sincere, but also very overbearing--they thought all of society should be run by their understanding of the teachings of the Bible

Number one is too complicated to give a short answer. There were different colonies and they had different reasons for settlement. For example, Virginia was set up as money making venture by joint stock company, Maryland was intended to be haven for Catholics, Georgia was initially going to be a charitable colony for debtors...etc. Not all colonies were settled initially by the English either. New York was a Dutch colony and Florida was a Spanish one.

The other two questions also have complex answers and I am getting the feeling that if I'd answer them, I'd be helping you do your homework. I'd recommend any of the following books for the answers...
Colonial America by Jerome R. Reich
Colonial America: A History, 1565-1776 by Richard Middleton
Major Problems in Colonial American History edited by Karen Ordahl Kupperman
The Americans: The Colonial Experience by Daniel Boorstin

Lol. 1, 2 same as the 1st answer. Puritan (oxford thesaurus): moralist, pietist, prig, killjoy, ascetic.
BTW I know that George Washington not only chopped down his father's cherry tree, but also admitted doing, and why his father didn't punish him. Because George still had the axe in his hand

They came to live off someone else's land. They had heard about free land, free gold, free slaves from the Spaniards who invaded, killed, stole, and enslaved.

They imported slaves because they were too lazy to do the hard work themselves. That's why people have slaves.

They wanted a part of that action, too.
