According to the theroy, everything started from a single point, not atom. This point may be a signularity which some how explodes and releases all teh energy that goes into making the universe you see around you. But until several minutes after the start of the big bang, there is only energy in the form of radiation. It eventually cools out through expansion so that pair production (conversion of photons to parrticles) can occur with the particles having enought room to travel that some don't recombine to form photons.

It wasn't a single atom; it is called the singularity. It's a strange concept for sure, but it is not correc to say it all started from a single atom. The singularity was probably smaller than an atom anyway. Black holes condense matter into tiny spaces. I have read some theorists who think the conditions in a black hole are so similar to the conditions of the big bang that black holes possibly cause events like the big bang.

It wasn't an atom because atoms are composed of subatomic particles and exhibit forces like electromagnetism and gravity. At the precise moment the universe began, all the forces were united into a single force and matter did not exist. It might have been pure energy, but no one knows anything about it. Nobody knows what the original force was like either, because all 5 fundamental physical forces are now separate. Matter formed almost instantaneously after the expansion of the universe began, but it was subatomic particles like protons and electrons. Atoms did not form for a very, very long time.

By definition it's a singularity. Not a duality or pluraity.
If no other stars, planets, nebula or comets existed other than our SUN, it would be a singlarity.
Since the Big Bang is considered a FUSION reaction it implies that there are multiple atoms that fuse together to create a new atom generating gamma rays and heat in the process.
A fusion chain reaction is many, many atoms doing this at the same time, causing major release of gamma or cosmic rays and large amounts of heat.
The release of this causes a pluarility to form from a singularity.

Everything started from singularity--according to the Big Bang theory. While residual radiation left over from the event can tell us when the Big Bang occured there are still very BIG questions. What happened before the Big Bang? What caused singularity? There are a few hypotheses out there. One says that two parallel universes collided to make our universe--the two coming together caused singularity. The rebuttal to this not so educated guess is that it's mathematically impossible for to parallel objects to collide. "Parallel" means that they will never meet--they have no intersection point.
Another is the hypothesis that a huge black hole crushed matter into itself to cause singularity. That would mean that this black hole existed in another universe or a past universe. If that was the case we would have older risidual radiation left over from past events--there has as of yet been none found.
I have a hypothesis: God struck the Big Match and lit the Big Fuse, and then BOOOM!! the Big Bang. After He did it his first words were, "Whoa COOL!!! Hey son, lets make another one!! HUHUHUHUHUH!!!"

the atom considered here was super dense & extremely hot.
also if you have heard of black holes, everything gets sucked up in them, even light. black holes too have infinitely small size.
