Who reading this question knows the difference between Shiite and Sunni Moslems? And, why that difference makes it almost impossible for the two to live in harmony. Apparently Bush did not have a clue of the difference in these two Moslem sects before he decided to create a Jeffersonian democracy in Iraq. Once the US leaves Iraq and a really "free" election is held you will see a Shiite take over, the establishment of a Moslem fundamental government that will align itself with Iran; our worse nightmare.

The division between Shiite and Sunni Muslims occurred more than 1,000 years ago during the formations of an Islamic nation. The division between Shiite and Sunni Muslims occurred more than 1,000 years ago during the formations of an Islamic nation. Sunnis worship the first four caliphs (spiritual heads of state) as Muhammad’s successors, but the Shiites only recognize the fourth, Ali, because he is an alleged descendent of Muhammad. Shiites and Sunnis do maintain many of the same Muslim practices such as fasting, praying five times a day, and making a “haj” to the holy land, Mecca. “This basic political split is what divides them, but, it’s only political, and in all other ways Sunni and Shiite are very similar.”

None of what you say is true. There is very little difference between the two divisions. It is like comparing Catholics to Protestants. The only difference is we don't go around killing each other. They have been fighting each other, Christians, Jews and everyone else for about 1300 years.

Mr. Bush knew who was in Iraq. The Sunni minority, under Hussein, used murder and mayhem to control the rest of the population. If you don't know that, you should.

There is no Jeffersonian democracy in Iraq. It is a parliamentarian republic.

The elections in Iraq were free. The US had nothing to do with the outcome.

Iraqis are Arabs. Iranians are Persians. These groups have been at odds for maybe 5,000 years. They won't become allies.

Sunni- Believes that the first four caliphs are the rightful successors to Mohammad.
Shiite- Believes that only the fourth caliph (Ali) is the rightful successor.
It's pretty obvious why they can't live in harmony with each other.
