How would i go about cleaning / sterilising one of those jacuzzi baths. I have heard that unless you clean them with some sort of detergent / antibacterial stuff they can harbor germs in the pipes. Dont know if this is true or not, but have ive just bought a house with one instaled, so would like to thourughly clean it before use. I saw "How clean is your house" on TV once where they did this, but I cant remember the stuff they used.

You have inspired me to read the owner's manual left by the previous home owner. This is for an American Standard Jaccuzzi Bath tub.

Once every 3 months purge and clean the circulating system. Follow the steps outlined below.

1. Fill Whirlpool with warm water and and two teaspoons of powdered dish detergent, and 1/2 cup of household bleach to filled whirlpool.

2. Activate whirlpool system in accordance with opperating instructions, for two minutes.

3. Drain and refill whirlpool with cold water. Circulate for five minutes.

4.Drain whirlpool completely after step 3 is completed.

For general cleaning do not use abrasive pads or cleaners. A mixture of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent is adequate for most cleaning. Avoid cleaners meant for use on tile or porcelain surfaces.

Hope this helps.

These things are very dangerous. We have done the same and bought a house with already installed and the instruction book warns you about all sorts of things such as Legionnaires Disease if they are not cleaned every week.
You have to get a sterilising fluid like Milton , take off the control knobs on the top of the bath and pour it into the tubes. Then you fill the bath over the jets and run it for ten minutes at full blast. Empty the bath and repeat with just clean water. This takes about half an hour every week.
As soon as we can afford a proper bath we are going to dump this.
Can you imagine what the ones in hotels and health clubs are like. The tubes are full of other peoples body fat, pubic hair and faecal matter.

We used to have some tablets to put in our path that smelt bleachy. There are other products listed when you search the internet. I've used Baby Sterilising fluid (diluted of course) to do our whirpool bath and have not had any problems. Just ran the system through for a while with it. Emptied bath. Then filled with 6cm or so with clean water and ran system with plug out 'till it all cleared. Then repeated. Can't see why they shouldn't work too as long as you leave them the correct time and flush the system out with clean water sufficiently. Min you are these granules that get left in the water or are they just for cleaning when emptying it?

You must treat your Jacuzzi the same as a swimming pool, it will need bromine as a steralising agent and I am sure if you went to a swimming pool supplier you could get a kit with all of the chemicals in it. If it is cloudy it would be best if you drained it and refilled with fresh water. The temperature one of these operates at is 36 degrees celsius and it is dangerous to stay in one for more than 15 mins at a time as your body will overheat. These thing are great fun if treated properly. Oh you must keep the levels up to the "level" mark or you could ruin the pump. There that should start you off.

Fill the jacuzzi up with hot water and put about 6 washing tablets or dishwasher tablets in it, switch it on and leave for just over an hour, it'll be like new!

I used to have one of these baths and used to pour half a bottle of Milton, the baby bottle steriliser, into a bath full of cold water and let it run for 20 minutes, and after that I used to let it stand for 10 minutes, then just let it drain away and rinse. It will kill all harmful bacteria which gather in the pipes and also all soap scum, skin grease, etc.

Fill with hot water, half gallon bleach added to the water. Turn the pump on for 2 minutes. Drain.

Nothing is cheaper than bleach or as effective.

These other answers are nutty. Dishwasher tablets (which are solid bleach), left to dissolve on the bottom of the tub will discolor the fiberglass finish. DO NOT DO THAT!

On the programme 'How clean is your house?' they used dishwasher tablets and warm water and left for an hour or so to clean the pipes. Good luck.
