Sometimes it's the cause of death--everyone was shocked when Princess Diana died in a car crash or Kurt Cobain killed himself because you don't expect someone so young to die. A car accident, suicide, or some form of violence is an unexpected death. People will be shocked.

I'm less shocked that Pavarotti died because he had been ill for some time, and his body finally gave up the fight. And if there's chatter on YA about it, it's because it's newsworth--a well-known and respected tenor passed away.

What are you on about? You talk as if a life has no meaning or effect on anyone. Do you think if a close member of your family died you would be saying - "it's called nature, get used to it"???

Pavarotti touched a lot of people with his extraordinary voice. He had a great talent, and lots of people got a lot of pleasure from hearing him sing. He achieved more in his lifetime than many. There is nothing wrong with honouring him and showing some respect, even if you did not know him personally.

How cold and heartless of you. Some people are fans of Pavarotti and will miss him. Some people were fans of Princess Diana. They missed her after she died. Some people were fans of Kurt Kobain. They missed him when he died.

People upset that Pavarotti died is a perfectly normal reaction. It is a healthy reaction. If anything, it sounds like you are the person who is not properly coping with the idea of dying one day. The world does not shrug its shoulders and carry on.

We interact with celebrities. They become part of our life. We feel loss when they are gone.

It's not shock so much as it is being saddened.
