Increasingly marginalized into the role of sole supporters of the Iraq conflict. They are also doing a good job of showing the Republicans are lock step with the unpopular Bush. Something like 77% of Americans are against the war how to win with 23+% of the populace behind them.

I feel that they have a very legitimate chance of winning the election. I agree, however, that they have much to do in a short period of time.

How? First, they need to continue hitting on the theme that America MUST win the war in Iraq. Regardless of how anyone feels about the war, the harsh reality is we're already there and so we MUST win.

Second, they must hammer away at the Democrats relative lack of, well, political accomplishments. In reality, what politically can Hillary, Obama and Edwards boast about?? With all sincerity, does their resume inspire confidence as leaders of the US now, with so much happening?? I'm not being sarcastic here~what have any of the 3 done?

Third, get back to the promise of fiscal responsibility and smaller government.

Fourth, Immigration reform let the Americans still living in America know that you are the party that will put our country first.

Finally, they have to FIGHT BACK! If Hillary is the nominee, the Republicans have better be prepared to get down and dirty because Hillary has got the same pit-bulls Bill did, Carvelle(?), Begala, etc........These folks play to win so be ready.

There is always a chance. You can not predict what events will happen in the next 14 months. If the "surge" works, and troop withdrawals happen next year, Iraq may become a 'non-issue' by November. Remember, just as many Americans think that the Democratic Congress is doing a poor job.
No one gave the Democrats a chance in 1992 either, and Bush Sr had a 90% approval rating in February of 1990. (One of the reasons Clinton was nominated was because no other truly serious candidates thought they would have a chance).

In modern times the Democrats are perceived as being weak on National Security issues and the Republicans as strong on National Security issues. In such dangerous times as these that bodes very well for the Republicans. If the Republican who receives the nomination is Conservative he will win. If he is moderate, he will loose.

Republicans only win when they present a clear distiction between themselves and the Democrats. If they present themselves as "Democrat-lite" they loose. You cannot out "Democrat" a Democrat.

On the other hand, a Democrat cannot present himself as a Liberal or he will loose. So the Democrat has to present himself as a "Republican-lite". This is more difficult to do and still not alienate your Liberal base.

Even the mighty Bill Clinton, master of triangulation would have failed had there not been a Ross Perot in the race pulling the moderates away from the Republicans. He failed to achieve 50% of the vote in either election. In other words, more people voted against him than voted for him.

A Liberal cannot win unless he/she runs toward the middle. When they do it really angers their Liberal, grassroots supporters. They cannot win with just the grassroot supporters but they cannot win without them, either.

I just do not think Hillary Clinton has the ability. She would have to be more carismatic than Bill was. She clearly is not.

When the primaries are over and both parties pick their candidate, then yes. The Republicans will stand a chance. If the democrats choose to back Hilary Clinton as their nominee, it will give them an even better chance. ESPECIALLY if there is an emphasis on what democrats have actually done over the last 8 years. Which sorry to say, isn't much.

They've been labeled the war party for some time now and it does not appear to have hurt them. You would support this war more if a Democrat started it. What I see in the divide is partisan politics.

Not if they don't change course *now*--as opposed to waiting things out.

Ron Paul said that: "When we make a mistake, it is the obligation of the people—through their representatives—to correct the mistake, not continue the mistake. We have dug a hole for ourselves and we have dug a hole for our party. We are losing elections, and we are going down next year if we don't change it."

How about nominating a real old-time Republican like Ron Paul? They (top Reps and Dems) all have pretty much the same agenda anyways. They () just have different sticking points so that it appears that we have a clear choice for change. As if...

I think they will win the presidency. I think the Democrat party will nominate Hillary who has too many negatives to win but I think the Republicans will lose more in the House and Senate

9/11 made a once prosperous, business wise, economical superpower into a cowering, war mongering, fear full, head in the sand, the terrorists will get us, waste of a country.
Europe bypassed the US in GDP in 2005 and the Eurodollar is the new World Standard.
