Sometimes. It depends on the method of teaching. If it is dogmatic and tends to lean towards memorization, then it can cause close-mindedness. However, if it encourages a person to think and consider a consequence or effect on their own, it can open the mind.

No, education tends to teach you that every phenomenon has had a variety of explanations. While we may believe that the latest scientific theory is the correct explanation, educated people know that other explanations have been given and have been generally accepted.
Too, there's a difference between strong beliefs and strong actions. Sometimes the beliefs are that actions always have unintended consequences and that actions must wait until the consequences have been assessed.
The usual argument in the USA for why we don't like educated politicians is that they aren't decisive. Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were probably two of the smartest presidents we've had, but they were accused of vacillating instead of acting. No one accused Ronald Reagan of vacillating or of being incredibly smart, but he was wrong in the actions he took rather often.
If you think only educated people have strong beliefs, you must not have had much experience with preschoolers. BTW, when does a strong belief become "too strong"?

You gave a knife in the hands of a man to cut his ropes and free himself from chains of ignorance. He did so. But now he's intimidating people around him with the power of knife.
Who's to blame: the knife?
Education is a powerful tool. Sick are those people who tend to think that education makes them a 'i-know-it-all' being! Humble are those who say "now that I am educated, I know what I do NOT know!"

Closed to what?
So, you're saying that "uneducated" people do not have strong beliefs?
You already exhibited yours.
"Educated people have strong beliefs.
Too strong, sometimes."

Wouldn't you first need an education to have a mind?
