Yes, I well remember the jerk (Earl Spencer) doing a lecture during his sister's eulogy, to the Royal Family. Neither the time nor the place for the pot to be calling the kettle black, and right in front of Diana's sons who had just lost their mother. He had brought one of his various girlfriends to the funeral. Very tacky.

His second wife divorced him in March 2007. He is a fine and upstanding example of a dysfunctional family.

I haven't read the Earl's book but if you are interested in the subject Stephen Polliakoff wrote and directed a most excellent piece which was produced for the BBC about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a candid play about the young Prince John, his relationship with his family and the politics of the time. The harsh reality is that had he been anything other than royal he would have died in an institution. I don't know if it is available on DVD but, like the rest of Polliakoffs work it made a very thoughtful series.

If you remember, the Earl Spencer stood in Westminster Abbey at Diana's funeral lecturing the Royal Family on how to be human and vowing that her family would care for the boys. Then he went over two years without any contact with William and Harry.

The man is a hypocrite on a good day. I forget which wife it was, but he moved to South Africa for a while because divorce laws there are more favourable to men. The Times covered the divorce and had a delicious line in a news report that said you know it's not going to be a good day in court when the wife you are divorcing shares a cab with your mistress.

The "late" Earl Charles Spencer? He is not dead!
It really has nothing to do with anyone other than him & his wife if he divorces or not.
