Seriously, How do I tell him in a nice way that he needs to get in the shower with some soap?
He smells worse than my dogs!!

No, this man has no medical problems that would cause the smell.
If that were the case I'd completely understand.

Pretend that you are talking with your dogs, something like:
"Wow, guys didn't you have a shower today??? You are stinking!....Wait a second, you had the shower today and you are not stinking...so what or who is stinking here?....Hey Friend, did you have the shower today?..."
Just joke a lot about that maybe he"ll get a hint:-)))

I can only tell ya what I did once, "I got a new bar of soap, a washrag, and a couple towels and walked into the back and called the culprit. Then explained as nice as I could that it may be something medical but WE can't handle it "GIVE THIS A WHIRL!!"........GOOD LUCK!!
It worked really well, problem solved!! W/No hurt feelings!

Give them a nice little basket filled with scented soaps and Axe body wash and deodorant set. Say Ill bet this would smell great on u! Then the next time he comes over he will wear it just because u gave it to him and he wants to be polite!!!! I HOPE!

Leave little bars of soap and shampoo/conditioner and other little hints lying around the house...Like a complimentary...'take one or take all.' Just a gesture of thanking him for visiting, but get the idea with the soap. Candle, Febreeze, Incence, Air freshner, perfume...anything..oh well, you get the picture.

try this..
oh..you look tired, did you come back from a heavy work or something.. then laugh and say.. oh..come on, sure you were doing something hard .. you even smell so bad, I think you should have a shower. and insist on the shower if he excuses.
He can not deny!.. he will give any reason for his dirty smell even if he does not feel it, just to avoid this embarrassing situation. and - if he is smart enough - he will take a shower every time he comes to you..
the idea is.. tell him the bad and give him a reason to avoid embarrasing him. his mind will work like that.. either he accepts your reason to escape and later he will think. Or.. he will give another reason.. in a try to convince you.. that he is not using your answer..

Honey, I am a kind person, and I believe that you should just lay it on the line.
You know how & when to approach him, don't you ??
Could it be a medical condition or are you sure it is from lack of cleaning himself up.
I think as a friend, you need to tell him. I would !!
I want to look forward to my friends coming over,

If he's a close friend sit him down privately and tactfully let him know that you are concerned with his health in reference to his hygeine. Tell him you really enjoy his company, but you would enjoy it more if he smelled good. Maybe buy him a small care package of toiletries to use and present it to him in a pleasant way. If he's a good friend he will understand your concerns and your discomfort at having to endure his stench. I wish you luck as this is a very touchy subject.

Give him a bar of soap or an ultimatum....wash or be gone! He might not have water at his home. Go check it out. Does the rest of his family stink?

My cousin came over the other day and smelled like soured garbage. It almost made me hurl so I went around spraying air freshener saying that it stunk.
