Online is not a good idea because the shipping cost would be very high. A sewing machine in quite heavy. Check your local department stores or the store where you buy fabric. In the US, they are available everywhere.

At that price, you're looking at a used machine from an estate sale or from a private party.

Minimal price for a new machine here in the US would be about $100, and the first time they break, you toss those machines out and buy a new one. Further, they're frustrating to use because they just don't hold their settings once they get a bit worn. On the other hand, I can find good older machines here for $10-20 fairly easily. They'll need a good cleaning and oiling, the manual is probably gone, but the machine will work fine once I've given it a going-over.

If you have anyone near you who repairs sewing machines, see if they have one that might work for you at a price you can afford.

I have been sewing since I was 8 yrs old. I also have my own website and My Size Barbie doll clothing business.

My preference for inexpensive machines would be Brother brand. I own 3 of them and a serger and never have had major issues with them like I have with Singer or White.

Wal-Mart Superstores carry a very basic Brother for under $100 USD. I have one as a back up and love it. I also have a higher end and newer electronic machines which I love too.

Also look for a good machine at Estate sales, yard or garage sales and thrift stores. I once had a very nice but older Necchi I got for $25 at a yardsale in the sewing cabinet.

Kay is absolutely right. Contact the repair places in your neighborhood. Most of them will sell you unclaimed machines for the cost of the repairs. That's where both of my sewing machines AND my vacuum have come from!
