Sir or Ma'am is always a safe bet.

If their name is Smith it would be:

Mr. Smith or Mrs. Smith

I've been known to use their first names on occasion but never in the courtroom.

Outside the presence of the court/jury, I've been known to call them other things that are not printable here.

Me 33 years dealing with various attorneys.

And I almost forgot some of them like to be called doctor as once the graduate from law school they do so with a Juris Doctorate degree and technically can use the title. I've only know two who had insisted upon using the title.

Sir, ma'am, Your honor. If they are a judge. Lawyer, attorney at law if you are looking for one in the phone book.
