im 100% for animal testing.
As a med student, I get so annoyed with people crying for the poor animals getting 'abused' in labs. If you have ever worn any makeup, if you've ever had a shot, have diabetes, or taken any medicine, this is all thanks to animal testing.
I am against pointless, cruel animal testing, like cosmetic testing, but when it comes to science and medicine, we have advanced so much, and saved countless lives.
Until we can find a better way to test out drugs and medicinal techniques, animal testing will have to do.
Kelly C: if you're gonna talk the talk, you should be prepared to walk the walk. I would love to do some testing on you and all your family so I can try and find the cures for cancer or aids. You're right, much better than using rats.

We did that extensively when I was in medical school years ago, and I didn't like it. Yes, it is preferable to human testing as has occurred with prison inmates in America or WWII German and Japanese concentration camp victims, but I wish there was a better way. It becomes an ethical question of greater evils verses greater good for humans. I didn't mind the mouse and rat testing as much as the testing on baby cows, sheep, or dogs. I would not shoot a deer, but I don't mind catching fish. I'll eat beef but not veal or lamb. Maybe I'm weird. These are tough questions.
Added note - if you say you are against animal testing and that it is just plain BAD, you had better be a vegetarian; otherwise, you may be a bit hypocritical.

No... the reason? because it is morally wrong. We as humans are not "above" other animals. We like to think we are but its a delusion. How would you feel if next week aliens colonized this planet and began scientific testing upon humans with the excuse that they are "above" us and it was to the greater good to cure their ailments?? If people are so concerned about human life maybe they should donate their life or that of their children to scientific testing, since obviously they believe its better to cure people at the expense of others. What happens when we run out of other animals to test on? then maybe we will start testing on other people who are "below" others like people from the third world.. see where it leads? it leads to so much more evil. Just to let you know eating animals is a different issue, animals eat other animals.. they dont torture them first, or inject them and cut them.. its not the same. Predator-prey relationships are natural...scientific testing is not. One day we will learn a better way.

That's a good question. I do it myself, and I'm not thrilled about it. However, given that the alternatives are (1) no new medicines or treatments for things that harm people, or (2) testing on people (by trying out untested drugs and techniques on people first, which will kill or horribly hurt a lot of parents, children and siblings), I choose to do animal tests. I just hope the Hindus aren't correct, or my next life is likely to be a lab rat..

Sometimes, for the sake of medical science, it can't be helped. For example, most drugs must be tested on animals before they are sold to the mainstream market. However, most people are against animal testing, especially for purposes like testing cosmetic products. Tha'ts why a lot of people like to know if the product they buy was animal tested or not.

Yes, I believe it is ok. Sometimes it is the best and most accurate solution. I believe I am justified in my opinion mainly because I don't believe that animals have an eternal spirit, and I don't think that they are effected the same way by pain as humans. Also, I believe that animals are subject to the dominion of humans and humans are much more important then animals. I do think that we should not abuse animals by causing them needless pain. That is morally repugnant and shows a complete lack of empathy.

Yes. Humans are on a higher level than animals. For some reason people keep forgetting this fact.

As opposed to humans? I would say yes. If a few million mice have to die in order to find a cure for cancer, so be it.
