Depends on how much you are going to pay.

If you want to travel with someone with travel experience in Europe, paying for him to guide you, you will have to pay for all his costs, and a little or a lot on top of that. That is because he will show you what you want to see and do, not necessary what he wants to do and see.

If you just want to join up with others traveling around, better not have money clouding the issue.
But people you would meet are as likely new to traveling too.

If you feel unsure about traveling just the two of you, better go with a packet holiday, there are many different ones.
But you can easily travel in Europe, with just a guidebook to help you. Each town has a tourist information office, they can help you to find a place to stay if you get stuck, and they have a lot of information for the town and area.

Get yourself a Lonely Planet book for the area you think you like to travel, read it and you will see that it is not that hard.
For travel in July you will need to book accommodation before arriving, many places will be booked solid, but if you phone a day ahead or book through internet you can mostly find a couple of beds in every town. ( http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ The guides are often in libraries and second hand bookshops too.)

Your ages will be no problem, many people traveling will be as young, (or younger.)

If you like to be shown around towns, collect addresses (exchange information) from people here, as many will find it fun to show you their own town. (You might even get some invitations to stay overnight.)
