The pattern I am using is very simple double crochet and is a 0-3 mo size. I would like to make the same sweater only larger.

How much larger do you want to make it? Enlarging a pattern from 0-3 months to, say, an adult large is doable, but difficult since you'll need to modify every measurement. You'd need to calculate the difference in inches at measurement (body width, body length, arm hole circumference/height, neck width, etc...) and add in as many stitches or rows as are needed to make up that difference.

If it's still for an infant or toddler, then the easiest way is to use heavier yarn or a larger hook. Just figure out how much bigger you want it, then compare the gauge in the pattern to the gauge that you get with the new yarn/hook to make sure that it'll get you where you want to be. For instance, if you want to make it 20% bigger, and you will want the same number of stitches across to take up 20% more space lengthwise.

there is a free downloadable software program for designing and printing crochet and knitting patterns available at www.greatknitdesigns.com which allows you to design and print patterns for all styles and sizes of sweaters and cardigans from baby to extra large men. All you need to do is input the numbers of rows and stitches per 10cm test swatch and choose your size and style and it will print your pattern. If you decide to go this way and need help i would be happy to help . The manual to use this program is also downloadable. The program is called sweaters. They also have 2 other programs available for free download - critters (dolls and teddy bear etc jumpers and pants, trousers for all sizes) and ponchos and afghans (for anything from dishcloth size to queen sized blankets etc and ponchos in several different styles and lots of sizes). The free programs disable the save function but you can still copy and paste into a word processor. I find these programs invaluable especially if I am having trouble finding a pattern for a particular ply or unusual type of yarn

Would taking the pattern to a copy place & enlarging the pattern help?
