I just started taking a very low dose birth control after about a year and a half on not being on it. I started when the doctor told me to - the Sunday after my next period ended. At that point, I was on about 10 days into my cycle. My husband and I had sex around the time when I would *normally* ovulate (Around CD13-15).

Shamefully, I must say that I haven't been very consistent in taking it. It's been a very crazy month, and I haven't been able to take it at the same time every day.

I was just curious as to what the likelihood is of getting pregnant while taking the first round of birth control. Does it prevent ovulation immediately, or is a backup plan (like condoms) needed for a while? Anyone ever gotten pg on birth control?

Thanks in advance for any help/info!

It takes 3 months for any hormonal birth control to be fully functional, and thats only when the dosage is correct and youre taking it every day at the same time every day.

You have an excellent chance of being pregnant.

I used a back up plan for a month so it could fully get into my system... But they say it is okay after two weeks, then again every kind of birth control is different.
If you want immediate results and have a busy schedule maybe you should try the shot, instead of the pill...
There is a 1% chance of getting pregnant on the pill if you take it correctly. But every time you miss a pill the percentage increases, you are more likely to get pregnant.
They say if you miss more than one pill you should use a back up form of protection for the next week.

birth control doesnt ALWAYS protect you from pregnancy so if you're having sex and he doesn't want to wear a condom then you still have a chance to get pregnant. You need to make sure to take it consistently and more than a month before it can take full affect.

I had a pregnancy scare but I asked my doctor about it. She said that if it was only a day or two after my period i should be ok and i was. So it depends when you're having sex too.

Definitly talk to your doctor about it some more if you have to

First, you have to take it at the same time every day for it to be at its 99.9% effectiveness. It take take a month just for it to begin working. You can also still get pregnant while on it.
I have two friends thatt got pregnant after being on it a year+.
I would still be extra careful around the time you would be ovulating.

sadly to say I got pregnant on the pill too...Taking it faithfully for 10 years same time everyday....I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago. I switched to Yaz last September, I should've stayed on Mircette! (low dose pills too)

Always use back up for the first month!

It can take up to a month to even become active. Even then it's not 100% especially if your not taking it correctly. I Got pregnant on the pill and I was taking it correctly.
