It's good to know someone who's in the same situation as myself...i'm also really anxious at 38 weeks and 4 cm dialated. My doctor stripped my membranes on Tuesday and last night I lost what looked like my mucus plug (a lot of snotty discharge with a hint of blood) and i started having contractions but am still at home..nothing major yet.

Hopefully it'll be soon for you..i've heard when u're already dialated and lose your mucus plug then labor follows soon after. Keep your fingers crossed and bags packed.

Good Luck..eeek..i'm sooo excited for you too.

This is hard to tell exactly. Reason being is that when you efface and dilate it makes your mucus plug come out, but your mucus plug can come out even upto a couple of weeks before you go into labor. But, if your water breaks, you dilate to 10 and efface 100%, this can happen really fast. Also it can take a while to do that. The best thing I can tell you is to relax and see what happens, most likely since you are 4 cm dilated you may be going soon. But, wait till your contractions are regular and 5-7 minutes apart before going to the hosp. and calling your doc. This is normal advice they give you. My cousin was so ready for her baby she made any excuse to go to the hospital just to get checked so that way she could see how fast she was progressing. Hope this helps :)

Pretty soon,my step sister is like a week over due and she just lost her mucus plug two days ago but still no labor pains and her doctor told her that it could still be a couple of days before she goes into labor but if it doesn't happen within a couple of days then he is going to induce her labor.Good Luck, and Congratulation on your little one!

Call your doctor unless he/she gave you information about what they'd like you to do while in labor. Most doctor's don't want you at the hospital until you have contractions that are 2 minutes apart. If you start feeling pain and/or tightness either in your abdomen or back that comes at regular intervals, start timing. Timing contractions is important. To time your contractions, start when the pain starts and then stop timing when the next pain starts. Make sure you stay hydrated and relaxed. The longer you can stay at home, the more likely it will be that you won't have to be sent home because you are "too early"... But if the pain gets to the point that you can't manage it through breathing exercises or other methods, head to the hospital. Most women walk to shorten their labor time.

Good luck!!
and Congratulations!!

Don't believe all these people that are telling you it's going to be a matter of hours or a couple days. I am 38 weeks and have been dilated to 4 for a couple of weeks. I have been having contractions and the baby is low and in position, but the contractions are not strong enough for labor. My sister in law went to week 42 dilated to 4 when they finally induced her...could be weeks away yet unfortunately. Don't get your hopes up. I have been trying sex, walking, evening primrose oil, spicy food, you name it....nothing works.

If you lost your mucus plug and are 4cm, I would say prepare for it within the next few days. You are safe because you are 38 weeks. Most women are a week or two shy of their due dates anyway. Good luck, you will do great...congrats, you are going to be a mama!

Congrats you are officially in labor!! :) Only fast is probably not what will happen. I went another 2 days after my plug came out. It will all depend. Just keep track of your contractions and if your water should burst get to the hospitial ASAP!! Good Luck and May God Bless you and your new child and once again many congratulations to you!! :)

the actuality: Lossing your mucous plug isn't indication of once you will bypass into hard artwork. normally, a female can loose her plug everywhere as much as two weeks earlier hard artwork. in spite of the undeniable fact that, because of the fact you're already 38 weeks, it ought to no longer be that long. Now taht oyu have misplaced your mucous plug, your cervix will replace into greater gentle to dilation. in case you may opt to velocity up the hard artwork technique, now could be a reliable time to start. Nipple stimulation is the nost organic, safest, and efficient way of helping your cervix to dilate. gently pinch and squeeze your nipples until you experience a contration. Wait 5 mintues, and then do it lower back. try this for approximately half-hour, and in the experience that your physique is waiting, hard artwork will nautrally initiate. reliable success!

Probably coming but fast is relative. I wouldn't think that its going to be now.. but it probably in the next week or so. I lost my plug and then had to be induced a couple of weeks later. Since your starting to dialate and are thinning I would guess it would be soon but not fast.. does that make sense? I hope so. Congrats and good luck!
