How can a show that portrayed teens so accurately at the time, be canceled before it's first season is over, yet achieve cult status years later? And shows like Dawson's Creek can stay on for years, when the actors are way older than what they're trying to portray. Claire Danes was 15 when MSCL came out. Her character, Angela, was also 15. Why would a show that has real dialect of teenagers (using "like" every other word), be overshadowed by a show where NO teenager talks like "Joey"? Is just all about ratings? If it is, then how has it achieved the cult status? ANd the way Angela obsessed about Jordan.... that's REAL. We really do that when we're 15!

Well, that's sort of the definition of "cult" status. Like a cult, there are a few people who really, really think it's great, but on the whole, it is ignored. There's also another phrase that explains this phenomenon, it's called the masses are @$$es. You have to dumb down and genericize (no, really, that's a word) anything if you want it to appeal to a great number of people. I'm a fan of many things that have a cult following, they're usually smarter and have a lot more depth.

Honestly, I think if ABC (I think that's what it was on) had given this show another year, it would have done very well. It was one of those shows that flew under the radar but got a lot of word of mouth. By the time most people had heard about it, it was already canceled.

The great Kahunas of TV make the decisions that benefit them and put money in their pockets.

It's all about ratings and money. If the ratings fall, the advertises pull their money and the execs pull the show.
