To any of you who have missed the point, this is relevant because of Fred Thompson's candidacy. The question is addressing the criticism regarding actors who run for office. Since in modern history, Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Fred Thompson are Republican former actors, the asker was just wondering why the Left had no complaint about electing Ronald Reagan, the former actor as the California Governor when he was a Democrat.

To put it simply, she is pointing out the hypocrisy of that.

Ronald Reagan was a Republican by the time he was elected Governor of California. He had been a Democrat at one time and then switched well before running for Governor.

He was also President of the Screen Actor's Guild. (that is the actor's union)

Standing down the Soviet Bear isn't relevant today?

Ronald Reagan was elected as a REPUBLICAN governor. Yes, in his youth he was a New Deal Democrat, but he switched parties and even appeared in some pro-McCarthy films during the 50s.

So what's your point? Ronald Reagan was an actor who turned to politics. Regardless of his political affiliation, he was still an actor who turned to politics.

I get your point, and apologize for the hostility of many of the answerers.
The point is that the ywo parties are not so far apart, many have switched parties for one reason or another. I resect these people for using their minds and not becoming lemmings of their party.
As far as Fred Thompson goes, he was a politicain turned actor.
