A flaw still exists:

Nothing in the constitution specifically protects democracy, or our governmental style of a republic. Nothing prevents the lawmakers and president from writing a law or amending the constitution to establish a dictator to control America. They can take away all of our rights by amendment. Anything can be legally and constitutionally done by the members of government in DC so long as they all agree and no one challenges their actions.

Women and blacks weren't allowed to vote in the beginning. Also, the Senators weren't elected by the people until the 17th Amendment was passed in 1913. Before that, the Senators were chosen by the state legislatures. Not only that, but before the 26th Amendment, there were men who served their country and yet were still not allowed to vote, because most states mandated that a person had to be 21 or older to vote.
