what if it meant trading Manny and Lowell?

Will he leave? It is possible, but not probable. Not many teams are either going to be able to afford him or want to pay that much for one player. Really only a handful of teams could (Yanks obviously, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs anytihng past those is pushing it).

Would the Sox sign him if they could? You bet. Simply put he is the best player in baseball. Any team that could sign him and wouldnt are complete idiots

Arod doesn't necessarily want to leave the Yanks, he is simply going to go to whoever pays him. This is the world of a Boras client. It could be the Yanks, it could be Boston, it could be out west. Whoever pays him is who will get him. It has nothing to do with what team it is. He has already shown this when he ditched the Mariners for Texas. The notion that he wants to stay a Yankee forever, become a Yankee legend, etc. is ridiculous. After all, their entire fan base, or at least 3/4 of Yankee Stadium every night, turned on Arod last year, and we all know he has never really gotten along with his teammates (not that he has been a cancer). The days of allegiance to teams are long gone and its all about the money. Nobody cares about proving anything on a certain team as long as they are getting paid. Yankee fans who say otherwise should be reminded of Johnny Damon stating he would never be a Yankee. If everyone does what they're saying they're going to do, then Arod is as good as gone, but what everyone is saying most likely wont happen. I'm not saying the Yanks wont sign him, but if they're not offering the most, you're watching Arods final month in pinstripes right now.

As for the Red Sox position, Arod could really stick it to the Yankee fans who furiously booed him and sign in Boston. First off, as a Red Sox fan, I would like to see the team able to dump Julio Lugo (who has played better in the second half than anyone, myself included, is giving him credit for) the same way they did with Edgar Renteria. If not the team could take a shot at him playing third base. Trading Lowell would not be necessary since he is a free agent after this year. In addition to the $30 mill coming off the books for Lowell, the Red Sox will be waving good bye to $30 mill for Schilling and Clement after this year. I have heard the Red Sox wouldn't want to spend the cash for Arod since they invested in Dice-K. That is simply not the case, and money will not be an issue for the Red Sox. As for trading Manny, I don't think that would be necessary since he will be gone after 2008 anyway, but the Red Sox may explore that whether or not Arod is in the mix, since they have looked into it many times in the past. The Manny situation will most likely have no connection to whether or not Boston pursues Arod.

What I can see becoming an issue is if they can not dump Lugo. It would not shock me to see a tiebreaker of sorts between teams for Arod to chose from being him wanting to move back to shortstop.

But again, it will have nothing to do with the Yankees being the Yankees or the Red Sox being the Red Sox. Players don't care about that anymore, and Arod is a prime example of that with his departure from Seattle. Where the most money is will be where you see Arod next year.

I think he will end up staying in NY.

Nobody else is going to pay him more than $28 million a year that he is guaranteed now so he is only going to opt out of his contract if he can get a lot more than the 4 years he has remaining on his contract.

The thing that people forget in all this arod talk is that the yankees have an automatic $32 million advantage in giving him an extention. If he stays in his contract, the Texas Rangers are still paying $8 million a year for the next 4 years. If the Yankees want to give him an extention for another 6 years after that, they have $32 million in the bank already from Texas. Another team is going to have to be willing to pay $32 million MORE than the Yankees who have more money than anyone.

I don't see that happening.

Plus, I think Arod might like to have a monument next to Ruth and Gerhig out in centerfield of the new Stadium.

Red Sox may be one of the few teams that could afford him, everyone else would have to trade half of the team. If it were a trade and I were a fan of either team which I'm not, I would take it, Manny can hit, but he does some dumb things, Lowell would be missed and really so would Manny.

As much as I can't stand A-rod, because almost every player who has worn the Yankees pin stripes is a sell out. I do believe A-Rod is serious though, and doesn't make dumb mistakes or at least not many, and we know he can hit.

Hmm, tough call. I wouldn't mind giving up Manny and Lowell for Arods talent but the fact that he is coming from the Yankees spoils it. I dont want anyone that has worn pinstripes coming to the Red Sox.

AROD will be opting out, its up to the Yankees on whether or not they want to keep him.

Lowell is a free agent, so there isn't going to be any trade. Also, at this point, the Yankees actually have a glut of outfielders (Matsui, Cabrera, Abreu, Duncan, Damon). The Yankees are still Alex's best bet for a big contract because nobody else has the finances that they do. The Yankees have also stated that if A-Rod does choose to opt out, they will not try to resign him. They will restructure his contract or give an extension if he wants to renegotiate (because the Texas Rangers are still paying $30 million of the current contract) but if he opts out, he's out of New York.

Well considering the trade deadline is over along with Lowell and (if he opts out of his contract) A-Rod both being fee agents at season's end this question is not even relevent. Do I think A-Rod will opt out and sign elsewhere? I actually think he will...I think the Yankees are going to look somewhat different (from the upper management on down) come next year.

A-ROD I don't think will leave the Yankees and if he does he will not be in Boston he will be with the Cubs....Sweet Lou is his mentor a father figure to him...The other team would be the Angels but after the year he is having and if the Yankees win it all he is not leaving NY He will retire as a Yankee...

I think A Rod would stay with the yankees. We really want to have him back and we show it by chanting MVP because he is our MVP. We dont want Manny or Lowell or anyone on that team because they all stink. We want A rod. And personally, i dont think he will leave.

Arod is a Yankee for life. The real question is, how many grammar mistakes can you find in Boston Bruins response?
