I have HP Vs17 Monitor. I had no idea about the monitor refresh rate. I was just checking some settings and found this setting on the monitor tab. It was selected to 60 Hz. But accidently I enabled it to 75 Hz. My monitor's resolution is 1280*1024 pixels and I have 128 MB graphics card in built. After selecting that my display turned a bit fuzzy but I think much clearer than b4. Then I found the warning which tells higher refresh rates are good but It may hamn my monitor's hardware. So, i quickly restored it to default 60 Hz. Did my monitor get hurt ??? What's this refresh rate all about??? Where do I get addintional help on this....Which Hp site..where ??? And pls make it clear on what refresh rate is !

Guess What !!! I've just started getting unusual beeps frm my monitor !!! Oh god...is it damaged ??? I've restarted and now all thing's fine...Wat actually happened ??

The card shouldn't let you set a refresh rate other than what the monitor can do safely, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Vertical refresh indicates the time taken to send one entire picture (or frame) of video. Frequency = 1/Time.
Higher refresh rates are better for CRTs because they reduce the effect of flicker. CRTs should run at 75 Hz or 85 Hz.
LCD monitors do not flicker, but need to sample the video signal. So a slower video signal with a lower refresh rate should give a better picture. LCDs should run at 60 Hz.
If your picture is fuzzy then open up Notepad and fill the screen with H characters. Then press the auto setup button on the monitor. That should help.
