Before you assume the Bible is "the oldest book...", look for 'The Epic of Gilgamesh.'

The Book of Job in the Hebrew bible is considered the oldest portion of the bible and it is certainly controversial. Job was most likely a peer of Abraham and his story has been generally accepted as being written during that period. Moses writes about earlier times but those writings are apparently based on earlier documents that no longer exist.

In my opinion the Book would be "The Prince " by Niccolo Machiavelli.

It was more or less a survival guide for rulers in the 16th century Italian city states and principalities, very controversial and put on the Catholic church's forbidden book list for centuries.
