The crab may also symbolize your inability to effectively move forward and address your own difficulties. (Remember the crab often moves sideways or backwards.) Some folklore interpretations say that the crab is an omen of poor health. However, there is a more positive interpretation for the crab in some areas of metaphysics, the crab is a representative of the sea and the sky. It represents physical nourishment which can be obtained from the sea and also intellectual nourishment. As with all water dwelling animals, the crab could also represent something in the unconscious and the emotions.

"As an animal totem, the Crab represents the male aspects of community, protection and home space. He is also a symbol of pending good luck. Those who share the qualities of the crab have the ability to escape confrontation by consciously sidestepping trigger issues. If the crab has come to you in real life or a dream, it is a message to let an issue that is troubling you go so that you can meet a brighter future."

Crab represents the sign of Cancer in astrology. Study the Cancer information. Cancer is also a water sign, and crab are water creatures. Water is represented as emotional energy. It is also related to your second chakra, your creative energy chakra. All of these will influence your perception of the crab. To me, my first thought is that there is a needed understanding of your emotional life within your home, not neccessarily your literal home. Your home within you. So, look up the second chakra, and look up Cancer. These will help you discern what crabs appearence will mean to you

I think it's the Swahili sign of good luck - if food shows up on your doorstep, you are truly fortunate..broil with melted butter and enjoy.

I am laughing at all the answers that it is an escaped pet..does anybody know anybody who keeps a crab as a pet??

crab
The crab is a symbol of great strength and power in gripping and holding. It occurs on the coats of arms of several families. The sign of the lobster is also a symbol of prodigious gripping and holding power in its bearer and the symbols of its claws occur in arms more frequently than its entire body. Allied to these two charges is the crayfish, which is also referred to as a crevice.

It means you are destined to be visited by a crabby relative - possibly an Uncle with gout.
