If you are like the millions of people who love Wal-Mart for they're low prices, watch the documentary "Wal-mart: The high cost of low prices". I think it will change your mind. Don't you ever wonder why the prices are so low? It's because they have tons of Chinese workers making their products, that hardly get paid. The actual Wal-mart workers are poor. Their Health Care sucks too! I've heard about disgruntled Wal-mart employees before, but this documentary will open your eyes. It also drives out Mom and Pop shops that have been open for 50 years. Don't shop there. I know it draws you in with that stupid smiley face, low prices, and 24hour convenience. But ladies, be careful in the parking lot at night. 80% of all crime that happens at Wal-mart, takes place in the parking lot. And even though executives have found that a security guard patrolling the lot drops the crime rate to 0%, MOST will not pay for it!

William - Most Mom and Pop shops didn't overcharge until Walt-mart came into town. And the only reason was because business was low. Although, raising prices to compete with extremely low prices doesn't make sense, that's what happened. Before Wal-mart came into town, their prices were reasonable.
jjudijo - No, an insane statistic is that 80% of 10 year old girls go on a diet in the USA, or that being married shortens a mans lifespan by 10 years. Those are insane.
And maybe it was better when Sam Walton was still alive, but now that he's not, his hag wife and 4 kids are sitting on billions, and donate 1% of their worth yearly. Bill Gates.... he donates 48%, not to mention his wife is a saint.

I haven't shopped there since 2001. I just wanted to see if I could live without that place since I was there so much.

It has worked out great, don't miss it, and wish more would take their business elsewhere for a change.

I have seen the Documentary you talk of, and it just confirmed my decision.

generally, it is because of the fact Wal-Mart takes benefit of their length and marketplace proportion. they many times do no longer pay aggressive wages or grant scientific coverage. They positioned vast rigidity on providers to fulfill specific standards - sometimes requiring packaging or sizes that at the instant are not consistent with the manufacturers company plan. That being reported, Wal-Mart isn't all undesirable. there are various smallish communities the place they have introduced a branch save the place one did no longer exist earlier - and in those cities, there many times at the instant are not adequate small companies merchandising a variety products to fulfill the purposes of the marketplace. with regard to jobs, it is person-friendly to ***** approximately what Wal-Mart does not grant, yet what if that's a situation the place Wal-Mart is coming up new jobs the place none existed earlier? finally, the low fees provided via Wal-Mart might create an unfair benefit over different merchants, yet in addition they advance the time-honored of living for individuals living close to or below the poverty line. For those human beings, saving funds right here and there ability they have greater funds to spend on different issues. it is person-friendly to ***** approximately Wal-Mart and their company practices - and in lots of circumstances the courtroom circumstances are justified. however the courtroom circumstances many times come from people who've the determination of identifying to purchase someplace else. And as with all situation, there is yet another component that merits interest.

I don't love Wal Mart and I have watched the documentary that you talked about. However I also watched those Mom and Pop stores down on main street over charge people at hardware and other stores for 30 years without flinching.
If you are willing to pay much higher prices for the same thing, then you can go where you please. The Wal-Mart business model is to give lower prices for same quality items and they obviously can use their size to be highly competetive in buying and pass that along to the consumer. I know many of their employees, some happy some not but that is the standard with any business. I do agree that the security in the parking lot at night is an issue, I'm a male but even though they have cameras and generally have an associate patrolling the lot late at night, a security guard would be a plus.

You've got your opinion and I agree. But. There are many people in the United States that saving a buck for themselves and their family far outweighs what it's doing to anyone else. Many people are poor and the Wal Mart price can give them more for their buck which can make a difference in getting their children clothes, buying groceries, paying the electric bill, buying school supplies, etc. This includes myself and I work for Wal Mart. Many people are happy to have a job. Yes we complain about the pay but it's not too bad depending on what career choice you have with Wal Mart. You can be selective on what you purchase at wal mart. Just check the labels.

WalMart is cheap. In this economy, sometimes money does the talking out of necessity. If you don't have a lot to spend or are unemployed you go where you can get more bang for the buck - notwithstanding their politics and business practices with mom and pop stores. When you need clothes for the kid or food for the table you do what you have to and worry about the politics later when you can better afford it.

Walmart looks bad into the eyes of many, but open your eyes and realize the good they are doing. They provide thousands of jobs to people who have very little skills, or can't get any other job. Without them we would have a huge unemployment rate. I know many people who work at walmart. From their stockers, to the wearhouse even truck drivers that work for Walmart. They are 100% happy with their job. And whats wrong with providing chinese people with a job? Either way walmart does not make 100% of their products, why blame them for where their products are made? Blame the manufacturer. Walmart does not manufacture Tony's pizza, Suave, Alpo, etc. I don't know which walmart you go to but my walmart has good security and no crimes happening there other than shoplifting. I've seen that documentary, and if you agree with it fine thats your opinion. But don't blame walmart for employing many unemployed people, don't blame them for providing affordable food and clothes for the poor.

So you are not asking a question, but you are offering a lecture.

WalMart sells my kid's cereal for <$3/box, and Albertsons sells it for >$5.

Tell the WalMart employees to go to college and get a "decent wage". This is a free country, as they say. WalMart employees know what their wage is going in, and they can quit whenever they want.

Your statistic about 80% of all crime happens in a WM parking lot. That is insane!

I don't LOVE Walmart/Sams club, as they are too big. I am just happy the option is there.

Well, your little lecture makes all sorts of points but they are either false or misleading.

"It's because they have tons of Chinese workers making their products, that hardly get paid." What have you got against Chinese people making money? And 'hardly get paid' is false if you're comparing Chinese salaries to Chinese salaries. (And if you're not, then you're just being intellectually dishonest.)

"The actual Wal-mart workers are poor" They are being paid approximately what they are worth on the labor market. You think that Walmart should give them a doctor's salary?

"It also drives out Mom and Pop shops that have been open for 50 years." Yes, in my town we had Mom & Pop stores that had horrible service, limited selection, and high prices, and sure enough Walmart drove them out of business with bad service, a much better selection, and lower prices. So? Why would the Mom and Pop shop get a free ticket to protect them from competition?

It's not my favorite place to shop, but that's not out of some false and misguided concern based on a faulty understanding of what some Marxist union guy told you.

This is a competetive society. Walmart is aimed at saving money. LL Bean also uses Chinese workers, as does probably 75% of every big business in the good old money-grabbing Capitolistic society called the USof A. If you want to spend 25% more at a high end store....knock yourself out.

Walmart is the worst example of Corporate Greed. Just look at their low wages and lack of health care. They make billions and their employees are at poverty level. They actually stated that health care should not be a cost of doing business. STOP shopping at Walmart and put them out of business for good!!!!!
