My washing machine started a new and crazy thing yesterday. The water won't stop running (filling up). I turn it to off, I even unplug it, and the water drips out as it does when it starts a new cycle. The only way I can stop it is to shut off the main water source running to the machine. Anyone know why it's doing this and most importantly, how to fix it? Please only helpful answers, I know I can call a repairman, I want to know if I can fix it myself. Thanks!!

It says Hotpoint on it (brand), and I can't be sure how old because it was bought second hand about 5 or 6 years ago. It's old though! :)

the water inlet valve is stuck open, you will have to replace it, or if your a DIY unplug washer, turn water off, both valves,
pull washer out, theres plastic valve with wires running to it.
and a hose, [where the water hoses hook up to washer, ] remove the valve, remove the screws that hold the top barrel on to the val;ve, clean valve seat , check fo wear, theres a little round slug that has a seat on it, and is spring loaded, see that it moves freely into coil housing, put it back to gether,

Washing Machine Water Valve Stuck

How old and what make is the washer?
You probably have a bad water valve or a bad switch/timer controlling the valve. You can go to the manufacturers web site and try to obtain information about the model you have, and see it you can get a better idea of what part went bad.
Call a repairman to know for sure.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Do you have the same problem with just one water source (hot or cold) turned on?

The powered inlet valve is probably stuck open. See if you can find a wiring and/or connection diagram pasted to the rear panel of your machine.

If your machine is a Kenmore, just go to www.sears.com and click on "Parts". Enter the model number of your machine and you will have access to a parts list as well as a manual. You can even order the new part directly off the web site.

Good luck!

Don't waste your money on repairs. Buy new, a unit manufactured by Whirlpool or Maytag would be your best selection.
