value on this lighter? I would never sell it I am just curious. It is silver and has the Navy Imblem on it. It was made some where in 1940-1943

I would like to know too. I have some from the same period that were left to me after my dad passed away.

From 1943 to the end of WWII, Zippo allotted all of its production to the military. Regardless, you may have a gem in the rough if it's a rare WWII 'black crackle' ZIPPO:

I've had and lost a couple of these - I don't believe they are worth much because they are so common. Rarity is what affects value more than anything else, and in 1940 every man on the street had a zippo because everybody smoked. Hence, it is probably of little value in dollars and cents.

I've seen vintage Zippo's from this period listed for $500. and up.
