1) Does it matter that people get upset by comments posted here on this site?
2) Does it matter that very bright people are turning away from this site?
3) does it matter that I am taking the time to point this out?
Kate here.
Do not want any rubbish now about this.
Serious.
If you are out for quick hits against me forget it!
Matters to me that a contributor here who is a good one has personally e-mailed me not on here but my e-mail and stated that they are fed up with the racists, anti women comments on this site.
So ok all and sundry, down to you now.
You can have a site where people ask inane questions or you can have a site where people can debate.
Your choice.

Thanks Super Ruper for a response.
On here there are few people I sit up and take notice of.
This person I do.
Has intellect, wit and most importantly compassion.
So if this person is being drven away, it is all of our responsibilities to attempt to stave this off, isn't it?

Tera.
Yahoo have a duty of care to their contributors.
You,me and others post here and they continue to allow terrible insults through.
So, my friend lets me and you complain.
Do it.

OK Phil.
Then why do you post on here?
Why do you answer my questions?
Bored with nothing to do?
Go take your boredom and your self sanctimonious personality somewhere else.
I now have no time for you.

Kate,
I can understand why your friend feels this way. I, too, have considered not answering questions here anymore. It seems about 75% of the questions in this forum do come from hate-filled men directed toward every woman. It's depressing and sometimes it feels hopeless. I know from experience that you can answer these questions all day long, with logic, with compassion, with experience, with wisdom, and the same damn questions will be there again tomorrow. The people who post this sort of crap aren't people interested in serious debates, nor are they willing to listen to alternative points of view. They aren't here to ask real questions, they're here to make statements, and the statements they make are things that no one should have to tolerate listening to. There's a point where one can cross the line- freedom of speech is one thing, but there are limits. These people habitually, purposefully, and apparently with great pleasure, step right over that line, and get away with it, time and time again. I wish there was an effective way to stop it. I wonder if the only way we can really get rid of these people is to ignore them, difficult as that may be. If no one answered their "questions", maybe that would take most of the "fun" out of it for them, and eventually they might find more productive things to do? Sounds easy enough, but in reality it is hard to ignore people who abuse this forum and the people in it . We naturally want to defend the people who are being abused.
EDIT: Keep your chin up, Kate. I'm not going anywhere! I'm not going to give these people that satisfaction. There are a few of us who choose to keep trying, hopeless as it seems sometimes.
Also, I hear what you're saying about complaining, but truthfully, how far do you think that will get us? Yahoo doesn't seem to do anything about complaints (unless it's against the wrong people...lol!) And, it inspires the haters to go after our accounts to try and get them deleted. I've received violation notices for the most ridiculous things: some of which I still have no clue why I got them in the first place. All I know is, I don't want the drama. If it had an effect, the right one, that might be different. But from what I'm hearing people say, the only "good" that comes from complaining is having more people personally attack you- (so it's only good for them, not us) - there is no real protection but the protection we give to ourselves. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, we can complain, but if no one's listening, what good is it really going to do? Please email me if you have some ideas...I really am interested in helping solve this problem, I'm just not sure about the best way to go about it.

Well, Kate, it matters to me, Konnie.
I've actually been considering dropping off of this nonsensical site as well. Some days I don't bother with G&WS at all, and answer questions over at Dogs or Polls or Politics instead. The insulting, imbicilic comments here are just too tiring to comment on sometimes.

count is what makes you me and almost each thing else which would be seen touched or smelled dark count is purely the call they provide to something that they have no concept what that's, so as that they call it dark count because of the fact it doesnt work together with regualr count in any respect, the only way all of us understand of it somewhat is as a results of its gravitational outcomes. variety of like how all of us understand approximately black holes even nonetheless we cant see them yet we hit upon them because of the fact of their gravity. Antimatter is largely comparable to count, purely the costs are reversed so if count and anti-count come into touch they wreck one yet another, and anti count isn't imaginary, it is been created interior the laboratory so that's fairly actual.

I think it is stupid to think this site is anything other than entertainment. While it has a limited educational value, the questions/answers are very limited and constrained, often wrong.
I have seen lies and misunderstandings posted as absolute truth more times than I care to count and it includes pro and anti sides of many questions/answers.
Y! GWS is not life and does not reflect real life.
If this site causes one to become upset in any way, I can only imagine the emotional pain one must endure in reality.
This site changes nothing and would change no more and no less if it did not exist.
This particular type of venue is not conducive to debate. It's intent is to garner quick answers (opinions) to shallow questions or to get a very basic understanding of something that is not common knowledge.
To actually delve into anything would take more time and space than most people have ability to wade through and cannot be done with such a limited conversation as in mandated by the very structure of this site.

Of course it matters...certainly to the people who log on to engage in debate and discussion. But frankly, there will always be a group of people who look for easy opportunities to vent, belittle or just stir up trouble in general. That is something that is encountered in every aspect of life, and they are beyond our control. What we need to do is put them beyond our CONCERN.
My suggestions are this:
1. When posting questions, we need to do so in a open and non-threatening or discriminatory way.
2. When responding to questions, always do so in an open and non-threatening or discriminatory way.
3. Most importantly, IGNORE those questions and responders whose sole intent is to obviously get a rise out of people. Too often, people respond to their questions and responses...which is their goal. By ignoring them and moving on to those that are sincere and genuine, you are alleviating your own stress and, hopefully, discouraging their continued participation. If they don't get a rise out of anyone...what fun is left for them?
I don't throw my hands up in the air and resign to the fact that there is NOTHING to be done...I believe that we all have to do our part to ignore...for the betterment of this forum and others like it.

Of course it mattered! Holding an infant's class in a discussion group is only interesting to the wreckers. Eventually people get bored with racism, sexism and the relentlessness of ignorance stuck in a groove. When I leave altogether it will be when I yawn too much to care - God knows, a groove is a grave only longer.

Sure it does, Kate. Depending on who it is, it is unfortunate that she feels that way. There are, frankly, a few who I would not miss, but even those with whom I vigorously debate are good to have around. I just hate the haters.

I agree, it can get pretty negative. It's hard to resist that knee jerk reaction when you are slammed to post something to them. But we have to resist. They achieve power through our anger. Yahoo does not care. When I first came on Answers my first question was "why do people answer them?". Ignore them and they will soon tire of the game.

When the trolls and others start giving a $&^t about what we think is when things will change.
And as you can see it's not happening any time soon.
It's easy to sit behind a screen and be nasty to others...
I've actually left before and have come back. It's a train wreck I'm addicted to I guess.

Happy Snappy yearns for the day when all the yucky girls can go away and he and his troll friends can have pillow fights in their Sailor Moon pajamas and talk about boy stuff.
Awwwww.
Kate, don't worry. Lots of people are going to leave, but lots of people are going to join too. We'll never get rid of the feminists or the trolls.
