Were you prepared by having food and water on hand?
Were you prepared to handle some of the clean up of the damage afterwards (water damage, trees)?
Were you told to evacuate and did you feel you were given enough time?
If not what would have been a good time?

I have lived through many hurricanes, because when they say evacuate, I evacuate. In 1989, evacuation was optional as Hurricane Hugo bared down on Myrtle Beach, laying waste to it. Exactly 10 years later, the evacuation was mandatory, and given with plenty of time.

I'm always prepared to carry my fair share because my generation (I was born in 1954) was taught self-responsibility with more enthusiasm that appears to be done today. However, when a whole infrastructure is washed away, I believe the community should be taken care of by our wealthy government, even though they've proven again and again, that at best, all they can do most of the time, is an amateurish job.

It's surviving personal disasters that test my nettle.

YES, WE HAD A FLOOD AND THE WATER CAME UP TO THE DOORSTOOP.

(IT HAD FLOODED TEN YEARS PREVIOUSLY AND FILLED THE HOUSE UP TO A FOOT OF WATER BUT INSURANCE TOOK CARE OF IT THAT TIME),

THE SHERIFFS DEPT CAME OUT WITH A BOAT AND ASKED US TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. MY HUSBAND REFUSED TO GO, SO WE STAYED.

THE NEWSPAPER HAD AN ARTICLE ON THE FRONT PAGE THE NEXT DAY WITH OUR NAME STATING WE HAD "REFUSED TO BE RESCUED".

THE LESS YOU HAVE TO LEAN ON THE GOVERNMENT THE BETTER. TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF, IF YOU CAN.
