call the gas company NOW report an emergency and stay out of the house even if you do not have an explosion you will be overcome by gas and die if you have enough pressure to blow off duct tape then you have a huge leak get out and call the gas company from the neighbors house

In the UK, unless you are a registered 'CORGI' engineer you are not allowed to do any work on gas, on the pain of a large fine, and I would think that most developed countries have something similar.

turn the gas off at the meter , call a plumber and the gas company,and wrap it with electrical tape..use the whole roll if you have to.

Try using plumbers putty for a quick fix. You will need to turn the gas off and replace the pipe, though. It's not good to risk a leak.
