Not sure where you're getting your information from, but it is incorrect. When the renovations are complete, the seating capacity at Michigan Stadium will increase from 107,501 to over 108,000. Take a look at the website below for more information about the renovation project.

First, the "seat" designation is bogus. Many of those so called "seats" are nothing more than a long bench with about 12 inch wide demarcations for each "seat".
In a race for the biggest stadium, many years ago they decreased "seat" width so small that most humans can't even fit in the spot allocated.
Michigan WAY overcrowds its stadium, and this record for most seats is really not a significant one. Michigan goes back and forth with Tennessee anyway in this designation, so it isn't like this record has been Michgans for years regardless.
That being said, the reason for the switch is money. High paying boosters want those boxes (most stadiums are going this route), and the bottom line is Michigan can net a lot more money by keeping boosters happy and selling outrageously expensive boxes and club seats than the much cheaper bench seats that populate much of the stadium.
Bottom line is that once you hit numbers even approaching 100,000, a few more or less seats doesn't make much difference as far as fan impact.
If Michigan is going to change its focus from sacrificing fan comfort for the "biggest stadium" to a more user friendly (and frankly safer) environment, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I don't think having the biggest stadium in America is that big of a deal, i mean they take out 10,000 seats, so they can put box suite and club seat, that mean these box and club seat gonna generate more money than regular seat can. Probably generate 100 times more money, 1 Box Suite generate like $150,000-$200,000 a year , only Corporates can buy the Suite for their employees, or for the executives to watch football games. So it's make alot of business sense to me, i think the University put the box suite and club seat so they generate more money than regular seat can, so I'm all for it.

They should send the old seats to Appalacian State. Maybe the people sitting in them could see some games won.

Why do they need a stadium that big, anyway? Only top 25 teams need big stadiums.

After last week, they won't need them! LOL
Sounds like they are catering to the rich at the expense of the poor - typical Yankee corporate maneuver!
