Do not walk behind me, I may not lead
Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Just walk beside me
And be my friend.

It absolutely depends on the circumstances I have volunteered the last 15 years of my life to disaster services. I am confident in my abilities to lead in that situation, without a doubt. I also like being a team player and always try to follow the rules but occasionally question them.
I have been to DC and spoken in front of senators and congressmen to get a bill past recognizing a rare disorder afflicting 1.4 million people. In passing the bill, people could get benefits and research dollars for cures. I also spoke with Social Security Disability to aid others in my state get benefits..
Truthfully, I lead if I have a passion for the cause, certain things I just don't have the inclination to lead, would rather just follow the rules.
I think it is because of the era we were raised in, we knew that we could make social changes and weren't afraid to do it. We had passion......my dad used to say "Instead of bitchin' about the unfairness, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT"

Fifty years ago I enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Recruit. After 13 years as an enlisted Hospital Corpsman I received a commission as Ensign in the Medical Service Corps and retired 25 years ago with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. 21 years ago, fed up with the lack of a workable transit system in my area, I developed a transit plan with my own money and presented it to the region's transportation commission. It served as the model for our current system of 51 routes serving over 50 million people a year. I've also run for elective office twice in the past 25 years. So, I guess I'm not a follower.

That depends on the situation. If I don't have any particular destination or goal, I'll follow. If I have a destination or goal to reach, and people are floundering around, I'll take the lead.

I lead and sometimes leave everyone behind. I may even get annoyed when others don't take the bull by the horns. Character flaw I guess.
