-Milk supply: Estrogen-containing contraceptives have been linked to low milk supply and a shorter duration of breastfeeding even when started when baby is older, after milk supply is well established.

-Safety: Both progestin (progesterone) and estrogen are approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for use in breastfeeding mothers.

--- Progestin-only contraceptives are the preferred choice for breastfeeding mothers when something hormonal is desired or necessary.

Progestin-only contraceptives come in several different forms:

the progestin-only pill (POP) also called the "mini-pill" (Micronor, Errin, Nor-QD, Ovrette, Microval, etc)
the birth control injection (Depo Provera)
the progesterone-releasing IUD (Mirena, Progestasert)
the birth control implant (Norplant, Implanon).

Well they don't recommend it because when you get a tattoo there is always a small risk you will contract hepatitis from the needles. Even if the tattoo place is really good and clean I would probably just wait since hepatitis is so bad esp. for babies and I'm paranoid about it? Also obviously there's a risk of HIV transmission. Other than that there is no real health risk involved at all except if you got some freak infection.

Orthrocyclin is a derivative of the "cycline"group and not readily water soluble. It is also not eradicated from the body easily.Hence the retention time, in a human body is more.Coupled to this is the fact that, this group of antibiotics are hepatotoxic, being not readily water soluble, they get accumulated in liver producing toxicity.Hence any child below the age of 12 years is not prescribed this group. This group also causes discoloration of teeths, staining them black permanently.Lactating mothers are often discouraged from taking cyclines,as they are likely to pass it through their milk to their child. This is the reason for prohibiting them.

I believe that it will decrease your milk production due to the hormones. I'm not sure, but there is also the possibility of the estrogen in it affecting your baby....I know that's the case with the Nuvaring, though. You should try the Mini Pill or an IUD instead...or even just condoms.

When I had both of my boys they put me on a special birth control that had low if no hormones because depending upon their age it can give them the female hormones through the milk. I think that after some point it is ok.

The hormones dry up your milk. No side effects to the baby are known.
