I think Hate is a little too strong a word to use.
When I was training tobe a youth worker we were taught that there are appropriate things to call 'young people' and kids was definitely not on that list, Goats have kids, was the argument used which is pretty easy to grasp.
It's all about respect, if you want their respect you have to be respectful and calling them kids is certainly not going to earn you much respect!

I don't hate the words 'kids' or 'children.' It is a little bit funny using the word 'squirt.' It makes me think too much of the males involvement in procreation.

I'm with you on this one, the word kids can be used both derogatory and with affection, but I also think it somehow de-personalises them. I think children is a nice word.

I do, too! Whenever I hear that, I go nuts on everybody around me. I have been to jail 6 times for beating the crap out of people who said it!

No,although 'sprogs' is preferable but I hate the word 'mums' instead of 'mothers'....
as in "I'm a working mum" instead of 'I'm a working mother.'

My Nan does - and you're not allowed to call it Mother's Day either as far as she's concerned - It's Mothering Sunday!

hmm ankle biters? depending on how old the person is if you call a teenage a kid sometimes that would sound more demeaning.

Aren't kids baby goats!!!! My daughter bleats if you call her a kid, one day she will get in trouble for doing it, she comes across as a right madam, I'm a child not a baby goat she says!!!
