I try to answer by a following incident.
A man called Nassruddin was in the habit of responding to any news or discussions by this sentence 'It could have been still worse'
Friends tolerated him for years and ultimately it become unbearable for them and they thought of teaching him a lesson such that this habit of always telling this cliche sentence goes.
they gathered together and planned a story where Nassruddin had no chance of using his cliche sentence . The gathered over coffee table and started discussing the daily affairs then slowly one friend told Nassruding that Husband caught Marry making love to their servant in bedroom .Husband got so infuriated that he shot his servant then and there.
there was great silence. all were looking at Nassruddin, what will be his response.. and he came out with same cliche sentence 'It could have been still worse'
Friends were aghast looking at each other, collected composure and asked in unison, How ?
Nassrudding said.. Had husband returned an hour early, I would have been dead.!
