There is truth that about 10% of women who have used the pill can not get pregnant.
But wait!!
10% of women who did NOT use the pill can not get pregnant.
In summary, Maria, the birth control pill does NOT reduce your long term fertility.
There are many minions of misinformation out there.
When people tell you things like "AT LEAST GET PREGNANT ONCE" first - ask them for their sources.
I am often staggered at what people say and believe (incorrectly).
By the way - congratulations on saving yourself for your marriage.
That likely wasn't always easy - but way cool.
I wish you the best marriage, blessed by children who love you and grow to honor you.

I'm also 23... I started taking Birth Control pills when I was 14 due to irregular periods. When I was 21 I was told that the pills were no longer working properly, my body was too used to them, therefore I had my period for 2 months. Anyway, I'm now married and trying to have a baby, and it's been over a year since I've stopped taking them, and I'm not pregnant yet... I was told my by GYN that it could take up to 2 years for my body to get back to normal... which means it could take up to 2 years for my husband and I to get pregnant.
I hope this helps...
Why do you need birth control in the first place if you aren't planning on having sex until you are married? (I applaud you for you choice by the way... great move... it's well worth the wait).

the woman you saw on tv probably had an abnormal history of other things. I dont think birth controll pill will completely not allow you to have children after you stop taking them. I think its silly that someone told you, you should at least get pregnant once, lol. Although I did get pregnant, before I started taking them. And I only took them for a month , because they were free. But I had a baby 8 years later.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???
Al of my friends who are now pregnant or have kids (and I can name at least 4) have taken contreceptive pills in the past.
I believe that women who stop taking the pills to get pregnant may have to wait up to six months to actually get pregnant, because it takes a while for the hormones from the pills to leave their system, but that's all that happens.
Some women carry on taking the pills untill after they reach age 35, when fertility starts to decrease and then when they come off the pills, they find they're too old to get pregnant.
But...there's no reason why taking the pills should stop you having a baby in the future. I don't know what TV you're watching, but I suspect it's American low-budget crap. Am I right?
And as for the idea that you should get pregnant first, that's just rubbish! Ask any doctor and they'll laugh.

Seriously, where did you hear this from. Birth control pill won't make you infertile!! I was on the pill for 5 years, before I got off it last year. I am now happily pregnant. And this is my first one.

I don't think birth control pills will effect your ability of having children if you don't take them for a prolonged period of time. Don't stay on them over a year and you should be fine.

Those are just a few cases that the media jumped on. Probably a miniscule percentage of the women who've taken birth control. No worries, hon. Enjoy your honeymoon!

Are you crazy? Tons of women have kids after using birth control. I have never heard of BC affecting fertility before in my life. Maybe on a very rare occasion.

Maria . . . this is a medical question. You should be asking your doctor about this. In the meantime, you could look up more relevant information yourself by going to WebMD.com or just Googling for the information. Are you asking here because you only trust information somebody told you, not knowledge you sought and gained yourself? That's a habit worth examining and trying to break.
