Despite what you might think from the amount of BNP activity in Y/A, the BNP are an extremist party on the margins of British politics who tend to get around 1% of the overall vote in elections.

At the last round of local elections earlier this year, they had a net gain of one council seat, which they very quickely lost again due to a defection to the Conservatives. Since then, opinion polls have been indicating that their level of support is falling.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think we have much to worry about from that paranoid, crypto-fascist bunch of no hopers. The ill-informed rhetoric and misinformation they continually attempt to spread, however, must never go unopposed.

So if you want to actively oppose them :-

1. speak out against them at every turn.

2. Keep pointing out how futile it is to vote in local elections for a party who have no policies that are in any way relevant to local government.

3. Keep pointing out how ineffectual BNP councillors are after they are elected - poor attendance records, inability to understand how local government works, e.t.c.

4. Expose all their ludicrous policies in addition to those on immigration - such as ending the universal right to vote, holding entire families responsible for the crimes of individuals, their isolationism (withdrawing from NATO and the Commonwealth as well as the EU and ending the UK/US special relationship), abolishing income tax and claiming they can pay for their entire programme through cutting foreign aid, abolishing the UK as a political state and reuniting with the republic of Ireland, basing the economy on workers cooperatives instead of free enterprise, e.t.c.

5. Always point out that no-matter what they say in their manifesto, they have racism written into their constitution.

6. Point out the various racist and anti-Semitic statements made by the BNP leadership and councillors.

7. Point out the various criminal convictions that BNP leadership, councillors and membership have had, as well as terrorist acts their supporters have perpetrated in the past, such as the Brixton nail bombings.

Here's an idea, why don't the main party's (conservative and labour) actually start listening to the public and actually DO something about the things a lot of people are concerned about; immigration, crime, etc.

The fact that the main parties are doing nothing (and show no real signs of changing) and are seen by many to be failing them is the reason many people are feeling let down and are turning to minority groups such as the BNP for answers.

The only way forward is to keep the Daily Mail/Mirror readers happy and introduce a points system similar to Australia when it comes to immigration and also create a border police. Both policies are Lib Dem policies who also have no chance of getting in. Therefore, I conclude that the BNP will make slightly significant gains over the next few general, local and by-elections, but not significant enough.
Hopefully we will have a hung Parliament at the next general election, sometime in Spring 08 if my prediction is correct!

Don't vote for them of course. More seriously it is time the main parties started to do something about the legitimate concerns of ALL of the people in this country. The BNP like the Communists are experts at picking up a local issue and exploiting it. In other words they are as dishonest as the rest.

besides the reality that at interior of reach point you may no longer substitute national regulations, possible impression the interior of reach area and impression vast judgements interior the interior of reach area ,alongside with no count if immigrants get precedence housing, which does no longer take place in any BNP council. Councils supply the pass forward on any homes built besides.while the BNP get in, in stoke, it is estimated to be the 1st BNP council, there will be vast interior of reach modifications, eg with regard to the form of mosques etc etc. Christmas final year in oxford, the labour, libdem and green occasion coalition that run oxford council all voted to prohibit the be conscious christmas and all christmas subjects, extremely retaining a "wintry climate gentle pageant".They did this to sidestep "offending immigrants." If the BNP had a majority on oxford council, then such ridiculous pandering to immigrants wouldnt have taken place. Likewise, in manchester final week, an "ethnic minorities purely" jobs honest replaced into held.Unsuprisingly manchester city council is labour controlled, yet had the BNP of had maximum folk of seats then such blatant anti white racism schemes wouldnt get the pass forward. yet we dont ought to have maximum folk of seats to have a power on interior of reach themes. One interior of reach elected BNP councillor must be the required vote between something getting the pass forward, or something getting scrapped.tremendously once you communicate approximately that many independants are nationalists and that some conservatives and ukip councillors have bnp sympathies.it is why we stand in as many places as achievable. It additionally will develop exposure while we stand in any election, be it interior of reach or no longer. additionally having a BNP councillor shows different company events that have been stilll combating, and that they nonetheless have an opposition. playstation - Mr sceptic is acceptable.we've purely 9 councillors in stoke, yet labour who administration stoke have purely 15.something are independants etc. we are expected to learn 9 stoke councillors in 2010.You do the math . Stats from left wingers are constantly deceiving. have confidence me, lefties are in for a ask your self in 2010, besides as later this year while we benefit some MEP's.

Spawnee is right. The only way is to make concessions to the Mail/Mirror and redtop readers.

This country is not in half as a bad as some would have us believe. We can all be grateful that the BNP, a bunch of crypto-fascist thugs, will never have any significant power.

From what I understand, theyre doing a good job themselves. From what I understand they're a total farce in power.

I think, in the end, there is very little you CAN do, the uneducated will always need a scapegoat and the BNP and its "blame the brownies" approach is something we have seen time and time again for countless generations in politics.

I think we just need people to be smart, to realise issues are not clean cut - and radical, drastic and horrifyingly simple approaches simply do not work in a world as complicated as ours.

With any luck, there is a vanguard of people smart enough to see what the BNP really is, and hopefully this group will be big enough and in touch enough with the mainstream to stop groups like this seizing the reigns of power

i know its not to everyones tastes but while britain declares itself a democracy the people do have a right to vote into local or full government whoever they want. germany romania the former soviet republics all had one party and look how much of a struggle it was for them to get out of their pickle. speak with your X, just dont vote them in.
