Plenty of water and detergent. If that doesn't work buy a cheap rug to cover it . They have wonderful ones in your local 99p store.

I think if you allow the carpet to dry then vacuum it should be fine, or even steam clean the carpet. No need to replace the whole carpet , if you can´t remove the stain, then I can suggest this. You can repair the carpet , If you have a spare piece of carpet or take a piece from somewhere it will not show (example ) under heavy furniture, or in a closet. With a safety razor, or sharpe trimming knife cut around the damaged carpet to expose the backing beneath. Cut enough matching tufts to to fill the hole. Dab the hole and the ends of the tufts with a suitable latex adhesive, then insert the tufts into the hole. Leave to dry then trim if necessary and brush to blend with the pile. This way will save you a bit of money

Depending on the type of carpeting you have.. Try to blot out as much of the paste as possible.. Let it dry and vacuum up the rest... *If that doesn't work and you have a shop vac. Saturate the area with water and use the shopvac attachment to suck up the liquid.. You may have to repeat the process.. In the future apply plain old fashioned shaving cream to the spot and gently work into stain... Let sit 10 min. and blot with light colored towel.. Try not to use too much water..

I would call a professional carpet cleaning service. It's a lot cheaper than throwing out your carpet. For small spots later on, it's better to clean with biological washing powder and HOT water.
