Boston's playoff chances are slimmed this week: ----- The Staff ------- Beckett - Back spasms Lester - hit in knee, day-to-day, probably not 100 percent Buchholz - Just proved he cant handle an important game. Wakefield - Not exactly the same pitcher after the ASG Matsuzaka - Only pitcher doing good, but his performance is a see-saw About Buchholz. This might work as a "preparing" start for a big game. Hopefully, he will give us quality starts when the playoffs start. He has never pitched games with that much importance.

It's too soon to completely evaluate his talent. Yes, he had an impressive minor league season and pitching a no-hitter was great but if he can help the Red Sox more in the bullpen then that's where he needs to be. If he keeps on impressing he just might get into the regular rotation before the end of the season. The one good thing is that the Red Sox will have a fresh arm for the playoffs.

To say Buchholz got lucky is completely ridiculous. He was baffling the O's hitters all night, and got some help with a few great defensive plays. There's a very good chance that he will never do it again, but he was very good that night against a lackluster Orioles offense.

I think leaving him in the bullpen is a smart idea, he is still young and can get the experience he needs coming out in relief.

Why do you Yankee fans and others have to trash anyone who does something spectacular. You rave about your AMAZING Joba who pitches one inning here and there, but you don't give credit to a kid who no hits a team for 9 INNINGS? Unbelievable. Oh and to say Tejada was safe, you obviously did not see all the replays. From the second base view he was out by a lot. Oh and to say he is ok...did you see the pitch he ended the game on?? Nasty pitch and that was after how many pitches?? This kid is the future of the Red Sox. The management put a pitch count on this kid for a year and if they start him, he will pass that count in one game, so they figured using him in the bullpen will spread him out for a longer period of time and possibly in the playoffs. They are not going to rush hurting his arm or his future, by over using him. He went up the ranks in the minor league system quickly and will be starter next year for sure. Ya, he got caught stealing something and he fessed up to it and the team investigated him and the incident. He was a kid when he did it. You are all so perfect you never did something stupid when you were young. Whatever. The red sox have some nice youngsters coming up who will be the future of our team. I think we are looking pretty good for the future..sorry suckers.

The Sox decided before the season that he would only be allowed to pitch something like 155 innings, and he is already at 140 plus. In fact the no hitter was the most pitches that he threw all season in a game. Also Tim Wakefield is back in the starting rotation. I have no problem with him being in the pen. He's only 23, you have to protect your young arms!

I love Buckholz and I think he's gonna be a great pitcher. But you can't base everything on one game. A lot of the times no-hitters are flukes. I'm not at all saying that Buckholz isn't good or doesn't deseve a spot on the starting rotation but I think Tito knows that he can't just give this guy a permanent spot just because he got a no-hitter. Think about this...there are some great pitchrs that have a n-hitter or many no-hitters but think of all the crappy pitchers who have em. And think of how good a pitcher Roger Clemons is..He doesn't have a no-hitter. So it is kind of a flukey thing. Non the less Buckholz is great and I'm sure he'll be a starter next year.

Spectacular outing for the young kid, I know us in Red Sox nation are like huh?? He doesnt get a chance to Tie Van De Meer's record ?? Weird enough had he pitched on regular rest it would be against the Orioles again, hmmm. But (always a but) I understand the the thinking of Theo and Co. He isnt in our rotation and unless someone cannot go then you change your game plan. Even Keel is how this team is run and it has worked for the best record in baseball, In Francona We Trust!! A remarkable story this Bucholz guy, I am so excited to see him nail down a spot in the rotation next year. Especially since Schilling might not be back in a Red Sox uniform next year. IN MLB you have to stick to your plan and cannot set lineups based on one game performances, especially when you are in a playoff hunt.

the sox just have too much talent in their rotation minus Dieske. Im starting to lose faith in him as a starter and would move him to the bullpen and make Buchholz the started that he is, especially if he can stop the yankees. Dieske just doesn't have the stamina to be anything but a reliever, but for what we paid for him Im still willing to give him a shot against any team but the yankees.

I'm not going to insult the kid by saying he got lucky. At the same time it was one game but it was a great game. They are going to hold the kid back some for the play-offs. No need in risking his arm, unless you really need him. I think it would be a major mistake to start him at this point. The Sox have the Yanks trying to close in, if the kid blows a big game, he might not recover. Leave him in the pen till next year.

With the playoffs around the corner, it'd be a waste to put in in the rotation for 2-3 more games, when he shouldn't be considered to pitch in the playoffs.

You can never have too much bullpen help.
