This question is for the men.
I hear a lot of responders who say things such as, "If it were a guy... therefore the girl should get the same...that is equality!"
What I'm wondering is, do you really think that women should be treated the same as men or are you taking such a position in an effort to balance legislated equality in which you feel women are given rights and privileges without the ensuing responsibilities - and that violates your sense of fair play?

Both. Women never used to get softer treatment than men in the judicial system, it is only since feminism and it's usurping and promotion of chivalry and paternalism that things have been lopsided like this.
If women were treated the same and were held to the same level of responsibility, then they wouldn't be so irresponsible. And that is a good thing.

If women want equality, then they should be expected to be able to perform everything a man can except that which they are not physically capable of doing (such as lifting 550 lbs.) You want a door held open for you then hold the door open for someone. You want to be paid the same then do the same amount and quality of work. If women want to have more female scientists then they should also want more female sewer cleaners. You want to be viewed the same in all people's eyes then act as though you are. The problem is that most women do not do any of those things.

GOD I can go on for years about this topic. But in short and in a tangent to avoid myself from writing an essay:
A. Some or [rather] most men prefer women that act feminine.
B. Most women choose to be feminine because of A. (Feminism is a CHOICE not an expectation, in America)
C. Thus, the world works better when there is a thick line of inequality.
Z. However, many people like to pick at this fine balance causing controversy and dilemma. Totally unnecessary.

Feminists, if they are going to be regarded with more validity, are going to have to face some things and be creative (I don't mean that in a bad way) about how they think about equality. For instance, if a woman can get away with more, and get farther in life because she's attractive, what is the positive male counterpart? If men do 90% of the most unpleasant and dangerous jobs, what's the negative female counterpart?

Women constitute half the population of the world (roughly). Therefore, leaving aside all the finer aspects out of consideration, they should get an equal share in every thing on this earth.Feminist be damned. It's just a matter of fair play and natural justice.Nothing less and nothing more.

Equality does not mean picking and choosing which responsibilities one will accept. If one wants rights, they MUST also accept the responsibility that accompanies those rights.
In the vein of this question, however, it really doesn't matter. There should be no difference of treatment depending on the sex of the individual. A crime is a crime and punishment should be meted out to fit the crime, not the perpetrator's sex.

I think the legislative powers (And i do say POWERS because it is beyond equality!) is sickening and too make thing worse women still do not take on the responsibilities like they should. The major problem we have in this country, is this. The "Women's Rights" group in Washington DC is one of the top 10 PAC's while the "Men's Rights" group is NOT in the top 200!

Huh? You think women should be legally equals but they should get off with a slap on the wrist for rape, child abuse, and other serious crimes while the man does hard times?

Chivalry falls under the category of "benevolent sexism."
"Ambivalent sexism is an ideology composed of both a "hostile" and "benevolent" prejudice toward women. Hostile sexism is an antagonistic attitude toward women, who are often viewed as trying to control men through feminist ideology or sexual seduction. Benevolent sexism is a chivalrous attitude toward women that feels favorable but is actually sexist because it casts women as weak creatures in need of men's protection."
"Hostile Sexism Items:
* "Most women fail to appreciate all that men do for them."
* "Women seek to gain power by getting control over men."
* "Most women interpret innocent remarks or acts as being sexist."
Benevolent Sexism Items:
* "Women should be cherished and protected by men."
* "Many women have a quality of purity that few men possess."
* "A good woman ought to be set on a pedestal by her man." "
