These aren't all the answers, but they'd go a long way towards improving the problems.

1. Put a cap on "pain and suffering" awards in malpractice suits.
2. Penalize any health care organization that charges more to insurance companies than they do single payers.
3. Penalize people who file "frivolous" malpractice suits just in the hopes that the doctors, hospitals, etc., will settle out of court.
4. Implement health insurance accounts that encourages patients to be more involved in their health care choices.
5. Streamline the immigration process for doctors, nurses, etc., wanting to practice in the U.S.

We have to get the profit motive out of the equation like every other civilized country has done. Health care is a basic human right, it is not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. In the US health care is distributed on the basis of ability to pay. In the rest of the industrialized world, health care is distributed on the basis of medical need.

That means dismantling the current insurance/pharmaceutical cabal and replacing it with a government program that uses tax funds for the health benefit of the nation's citizens.

Will it be perfect? Far from it, but for America to be ranked by the World Health Organization has having the 36th best health care system in the world, is criminal. I think we can do better.

First of all you have to get people to realize that the relationship between Health care providers and Insurance companies should be symbiotic. You also have to get people to realize that the stories they hear on the news about people getting dumped by an insurance company are the exception not the rule. Then you have to get people to ask the health care provider questions, about alternative methods for treatments. Do not ever leave a Dr.'s office or the hospital without understanding the treatments you are receiving.

The first place to start would be to stop many Mal-practice suits to lower the price of health care. Locally a hospital just shut down their maternity ward. Too many lawsuits originate from drug addicted mothers and legal methadone mothers (the hospitals delivery charges are usually paid by welfare office) and a few suits from illegals aliens (a few on drugs but none with pre-natal care). Most of these births were never meant too be, but they receive the best medical care available (for free). How much would you charge the real insurance companies to compensate for these other expensive medical treatments (some which are lost causes!), this passes their bills to everyone paying for medical care.

Educate the population about the difference between health insurance and health care. We have health care in the US, available to everyone.
Debunk the myth that there are 40, 45, or 50 uninsured people.

I would probably try to get a tax reform, set a straight 10% tax on everything. It will get us out of debt, it makes doing taxes so even a 10 year old could do it, yes i cuts many irs jobs, but noone likes them anyways. Then once out of debt, dump money into medicare, and social security. Make sure those are up and going, then budget the rest so we dont go back into debt, and we can have tons of surplus money in case of emergencies, and so we can still help out other countries if they need it.
