No. It's superstition.

They can work...but they won't tell you what you don't, on some level, already know. They give you an objective look at the situation and point out relationships and associations that might not be obvious otherwise.

That being said, the best reader I know is my High Priest. He has developed a very non-traditional style over the years, and some non-traditional meanings for the cards themselves. Like magick itself, he thinks the cards should not have a static, unchanging value, but that they should change as people and societies change. he keeps records on all of his readings, and follows up wherever possible. So far, he's been very accurate--I would have to say, probably 80%, when the situation hasn't changed. If it has changed, of course, than that invalidates or changes the original reading, so we can't judge those situations. No one is ever told what would have happened.

Of course it "works". Cards tell you what you need to know, though, not necessarily what you ask. The reading is a joint effort between the asker and the reader, with the asker influencing the draw of the cards and the reader threading a cohesive message from the cards presented. By themselves, the cards are a collection of pretty pictures. Think of them more as cues to pay attention to various scenarios playing out in your life. "What do I need to know?" is always the first issue the reading will address. I read for other readers but would not call myself "the best". All of us can learn something new.

I agree that the reader, not the cards is whats important for an accuate reading. I have been doing readings for years with a lot of success. I was even doing them on Ebay for a while, and most people were very astounded with the outcome. There were 2 people out of many that thought their readings made no sense(I refunded their money)-however, I believe it was due to lack of vocabulary skills on their part and no reflection on my skill as a reader. I once did a reading for a woman that showed me she would give birth to a son-she became angry with me because she was convinced that she was unable to conceive. She thought I was being an a@@h@le and let me know it. She called me 2 days later to apoligize after she found out she was indeed pregnant, and gave birth to a healthy son 8 1/2 months later!!!

I think they do to a certain extent, but I think there's some truth in things like feng shui too, and other energy-related phenomena.

I did a reading for an aunt a few years ago and she got the empress card in reverse, which means some family challenges coming up for her in the future. I didn't want to tell her it could be negative so I didn't because I didn't want to trouble her with something . However, a few months later some trouble did come up with her son which reminded me of the card. It all worked out ok in the end though.

It depends on the reader's skill. They tend to work, in one way or another. That means that they will probably tell some aspect about your life, even if what happens isn't quite the same as what was foretold. It's a complicated business.

Yes it works but it is not the method that works its the ability of the reader. I use ordinary cards, and i do my readings through holding a persons hand. I read the energy.

What makes you think that just because it may be a psychological game means that it is not real?

I don't prefer it, but it works as well as, say, runes.

You wouldn't recognize the name of the best reader I've known
