I like the wolf for its loyalty, commitment and love it has for its pack. Most Native American tribes respected wolves because they realized that the wolves lived much like they did. I also respect the wolf for its determination to survive. Historically , the white man has been completely ignorant in regard to the wolf. First, wolves were hunted simply because they were feared. Then we cut down all the forests, killed off most of the prey. This left the wolves with nothing to eat, so they started to feed on livestock. Then we killed them all(except for in Minnesota). Many white men continue to believe the wolf is a evil murderer, even with knowledge available that proves otherwise. In North America, there has not been a single recorded human death caused by a healthy wolf(Although, it is believed that native Americans were sometimes killed by wolves). Wolves avoid humans for good reason, the white man likes a killin em. Think of all the people killed or injured by deer or moose in car accidents....ironically this was the very food the wolf preyed on.
There is one theory that early Humans may have learned to hunt game by observing wolves. Many Native American tribes desired to hunt like the wolf. We will probably never know if this is true, but it sure is interesting when you look at how similar Native Americans and wolves hunted food.

Never met the man. But I like wolves because they are just a nice wild dog and are beautiful. When I was a kid, we owned some. In Alaska, they use lots of wolves for sled dogs. We had a sled and some wolf dogs. They are very easy to train and can withstand lots of cold climates so they make good sled dogs. Husky's are all of wild wolf descent.
