okay i honestly need opinions about safe places in houston..i've found quite a few apartments and i like to check out what people think about them on apartmentratings.com .. and i know every place is going to have its pros/cons, but most of the places i see are completely horrid saying cars getting broken into, property stolen, drug dealers, rude management, horrible parking..etc....i can handle rude management etc..but i don't want my car to get broken into and i don't want to get robbed...i want to move to the galleria or the west/westchase area..does anyone recommend somewhere that's pretty safe?? or just an apartment thats pretty nice? and nothing that's too expensive ... thanks!

also, any entry level computer job recommendations?
or decent full time job making minimum $8/hr ?

thanks ppl

There are appartments on Westchase just north of Westheimer. I live close to this area and they should be fairly safe but you will not want to park on the street.

Galleria and Memorial are fairly prime areas. Going north of Westheimer is good because Westheimer and Richmond are heavy traffic areas. You might want to look at some called "Fox ....." just south of I-10 around Campbell. Getting in or around the Memorial Villages is one of your best bets for safety because of the great police department there.

The areas west have some problems with Katrina victims and I would check that out first. It does get a lot cheaper there and it all depends on your price range.

Go a little further down westhimer toward the Elridge/Westermhimer intersections. They are some very nice, trouble free apartments in that area. My sister lives over there and has been there in that are for 10yrs and has not had one problem. The complexes are gated and it isn't that much of a drive straight down westhimer to the galleria. Plus it is a lot cheaper the closer you get to the HWY 6 area. Also off of Dairy Ashford (heading towards 1-10) is a great area too. Some crime but not as much as if you were heading in the other direction.

Can't help on the job though.

I lived in Houston for 8 months after Katrina, I lived in the Barrington Apartments on Bonhomme and the Hawthorne Apartments on Bellaire Blvd. Both places were nice, affordable and roomy. The Hawthorne has assigned parking now, due to tight parking situations. I loved Hwy 6, it was a nice strip, quiet and away from the city life.

I would suggest trying the West Oaks mall, Dillards was hiring before I left, but I declined because I was returning back to my old job in New Orleans. At times I do miss Houston, I still have family there, but there is no place like home.

I know the apts. Texas Cowboy is referring to, I think Fox Chase or some name similar. They are safe & clean. I know a couple of my children's teachers who live there happily.
Also, The Court at Museum Gate, Windsor Siena at Memorial Heights, Georgian Apts. on Willowick all are safe and inside the loop.

All I have to say is stay away from the southwest part of town. Every day there's a news story about something happening in that part of town. Personally I would go west/northwest Houston.

You can always check with the Houston Police department and the Harris County Sheriffs to see what reports have been made at those apartments.

Contact these people. They have have several employers email them jobs daily.

You can also head out on the northwest side to the Hwy 6 and 290 area. They are building continuously. Crime statistics show that the area is safe.

gordonmorrison is right! I live in Cypress, TX a northwest suburb of Houston, and its great! We keep on building continuosly n but it remains safe, and shopping is great! Schools are tremendous in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and everyone is so friendly! (P.S. I attend Hamilton junior high in the north part of CFISD, one of the best middle schools in the county!) Cypress is a great town, and there are plenty places to settle down in the suburb. (Bridgeland 20000+ homes, Longwood 3500+ homes, and about 16 more master planned neighborhoods!!!) BTW, 50% earns over $100,000 and 75% earns over $50,000!!!
