Hello there. Good but common question. Here goes my honest answer.

Intrestingly you have arranged them in the correct order. Your order is absolutly right. Here are some reasons -

1) The real battle for the first place is between Sachin Tendulkar & Brian Lara. Sachin Tendulkar is better than Lara because he is mentally much more tougher than the stylish destroyer 'Brian Charles Lara'.

2) Sachin is great part time bowler while Lara can't bowl. Ponting can't bowl either. Gilly also can't bowl. Sachin has the abilityt to get the top players out. He has
dismissed players like Inzamam,Waugh,Jayasuriya & Kallis many times in his career.

3) Sachin Tendulkar has more than 50 man of the match awards in his pocket which proves that he is much much bigger match winner than the other three players that you mentioned. I think he also has more than 14 man of the series awards.

4) Sachin Tendulkar has played almost his entire career under the huge pressure of expectations from 1.1 billion people of India. He has seen bad times but he has always stood tall. He has been able to overcome all those demons & obstacles.

5) Sachin Tendulkar has been affected by injuries much more than the other three players that you mentioned. And all those injuries were career threatning injuries. He has been able to perform at the highest level even after those multiple injuries. This is a sign of a great great sportsman & he is a great sportsman let alone a 'Cricketer'.

6) Sachin Tendulkar has been the most consistent performer.
In his carrer graph you will see consistency while in Lara & Ponting's graphs you will see Manhattan's followed by huge gaps. That is not the sign of a consistent player. Sachin has been much more consistent than Lara,Ponting & Gilly.

I'd say Ponting, not because he is a better player, but because he has a mental toughness Sachin and Brian are lacking some times. Gilchrist is not in the same league as the other three. Still a great player mind!
