I think at first that the question is in the wrong section. If you had posted it more appropriately, I would recall a question along these lines, which I remember from months ago:

My calculator says 86 + 16 = 102 instead of 104. I've written to Casio to tell them. Do you think I'll get a prize?

in pharmacy, that's synergism. it's like 1+1=3. the resulting effects of two things (in the case of pharm, drugs or chemicals) is greater than the additive effects of each.

and in mathematics, i think you can actually prove that it could be right. COULD BE. you just have to be pretty darn good in manipulating mathematical laws. i remember in high school, it was probably calculus, you could actually prove that 1+1 =2 in a long series of mathematical equations. it's not really just a simple 1+1=2, there are actually a lot of equations to prove it. unfortunately though, i forgot how it was exactly done. i think we used other mathematical theorems...hmmmh..if my hippocampus kicks (i mean, if i'll remember), i'd let you know..somehow...

well all our us were taught that 2+2=4, and by saying that 2+2=5 out of the blue, no one is going to believe you, unless you have evidence and explanation to it.

What these earthlings need is an evidence, without it no one is going to believe you, even if what you said is true.

If I don't view it as a math problem, I think, "The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts."

I think you're posting a question because you can't think of anything else to do.

the sum is greater than it parts, or this person must be using the "new math" I have read about.
