I'm leaving in a week and a half to teach English there and I really have no idea what it's like. I would just like someone who's had experience there to give me heads up, if possible. Thank you!

I head there on a semi-regular basis in order to do whatever shopping I need.

Right by JR Kawasaki station is a mall called "Lazona" and downstairs is a large supermarket called "Sanwa". It's pretty big and the prices are reasonable.

Then Kawasaki has the closest Costco to where I live so that I can literally take my bike there in about 30 minutes. The trade-off is I go there more often but buy less. It's a great place to stock up on certain essentials you can't get anywhere else at that price.

You will like it.
it will be an adventure and an adjustment. You will go through the same pattern as most people. First you will love it, then something in your life/work will drive you to question why you are there, then you will settle down and get into a groove.

I used to drive down to Kawasaki from my place in Shibuya-ku because the Toy R Us and home store over there has parking. I would also go to the indoor snowboarding place, Mizunokouchi R246. It is just next to Tsudayama station. We also went to the Sizzler that was on R246 when we wanted to eat out.

I've never lived in Kawasaki. But I know the place very well because I'm a Tokyo resident of decades and Kawasaki is just south of Tokyo.

It's a town between Tokyo center and Yokohama, a port city. Very good place from which you can easily go to Tokyo and Yokohama.

You can see it as suburb of Tokyo where many Tokyo workers live. Good transportation to any direction.

Kawasaki has lots of entertainment for men-bicycle racing, boat racing and rub-clubs.
